is looking for my Blog!!!
GO UCONN!!!!!
I'll be heading back to cold Connecticut for a week in early January to spend some time with family and friends. I noted that UConn and Providence are playing on Wednesday January 10th at the XL Center. I was able to get four tickets so I'm taking the stars of this blog, Logan, Barrett and my daughter Elizabeth. I'm so excited to see the Huskies in person for the only time this year and to take my grandsons (and daughter) is amazing. I'll be boring you all with pictures from the game.

In case you didn't see it here is my UConn/Louisville Pregame Report. I can't wait to watch this game.
Here is a personal story about Louisville. I went to Albany to watch UConn in the NCAA tournament with my friend JD (Meyers to some). We watched UConn dismantle Texas 105-54. The second game was Louisville against Dayton and I spotted Louisville Coach Jeff Walz watching the UConn game. The Cardinals were taking on Dayton in the second game.
I saw the look on his face realizing that his team would have to take on this powerhouse UConn team. I was pretty close to him and I yelled "Hey Coach, excited about facing UConn?". He looked at me and just shrugged his shoulders.
Well, Dayton handled Louisville and went on to lose to UConn. Maybe Walz just didn't want anything to do with the Huskies.

Statement from Geno: pic.twitter.com/XhW2XEFaZF
No surprise here. Geno basically said that last week. Now they have lost 3 player for the season, El Aly, Fudd and Patterson. And there is a possibility of Ducharme as well. It's really hard to believe what bad luck this team has had for now 3 years with injuries.

Great pregame interview with Geno. I know fans like to come up with their starting lineups and have their reasons. I prefer to see who Geno starts and then have him explain why. Thankfully the reporter in the interivew asked why he brings Aubrey off the bench. It soulds like that will continue. It's pretty much he knows what he will get from Grifffin when she comes in. With the freshmen, he doesn't know what he will get. So he said he would rather have the unknown start the game than come in later. Makes sense to me!

There is a poster on the Tennssee message board that struggles with the english language. To the point where there will be an entire post that no one can understand. It's kinda funny, but sad too. After one more unintelligible post, he felt he had to give some history on why he posts this way.
"When some of the grandkids of one dad's sister visit came down from Ohio they got a kick out of my speaking some of my words. But when your family lives in the same town they all say some words or pronunciation the same way. two hundred years or so Of one family living in a area even non kin fold sound the same. Tell you the truth most of the town are cousins. I have talked to everyone in This small town. Everybody knows everybody and I would not have any other way. I visit my dad sisters which they are five a live up there. In Ohio about four or five times and. most of the times they can not tell you who their neighbors are. County folk born and raised wound not have any other way."
I could be wrong but I think he is saying he is inbred. No??

UNLV
Why would one ask, I hear you asking? Simple, Charlie Crème has them as a 4 seed in his latest Bracketology, which, if it holds up, means they get to host which is a big deal. There were not a lot of changes between this version and the last, with UNLV being the only change in the top four seeds, yet this big deal received exactly zero coverage.
Let’s change that.
The Lady Rebels haven’t been a major factor in women’s basketball circles throughout most of their history. They did have a few brief flashes in the 80s and early 90s. Their best seedings were 4 seeds in 1985 and 1990. Ironically, they lost both of those games. (There were fewer teams and they were playing five seeds.)
They were largely a nonfactor between the early 90s and the hiring of Lindy La Rocque, who played for Stanford, graduating in 2012. She went on to become an assistant coach at Oklahoma Belmont and Stanford before taking the head coaching position in 2020.
They did get an invitation to the tournament in 2022, and 2023 but lost in the first round in each year. The 2023 record was respectable, ending with a record of 31 – 3, going undefeated in the Mountain West and winning the conference tournament, but that performance only earned them an 11 seed. While 31 wins is respectable, their regular-season only included a single team good enough to earn a tournament at large bid (Oklahoma State) and they lost that game by 25 points. Their best win was over 88 ranked Illinois State which they won by seven points. The seeding seems roughly reasonable.
Near the end of last year, they were getting into the lower end of the top 25, but no one was confusing them with the hosting teams.
This season, they didn’t start out ranked, and came into the rankings in week six at number 23. Massey has them at 28 so it’s only a small stretch to get to 23. I’m still surprised that Charlie selected them as a four seed which implies top 16.
The strength of schedule this year started with triple digit ranked teams, but the most recent two games were against Arizona and Oklahoma. They were projected to lose to Arizona, but not just won, they won by 19 points. If that game was viewed as a one-off, they followed it up with a game against Oklahoma where they were projected to lose by nine, but won by 16. Two games, by definition isn’t a one-off.
I’d say the last two games make them a team worthy of watching, although I’d like to see a few more before penciling them into hosting in my bracket. The next game is against Seton Hall. They are not favored but they are only two-point underdogs. Shortly thereafter they get into conference (Mountain West) play where they have the potential to run the table. Let’s watch.
Milestone watch
• Aaliyah Edwards has 1340 career points after the North Carolina game. She is in 39th place. She needs 25 points to catch Charde Houston.
• Nika Mühl had 466 assists after the Ball State game. She is in sole possession of 18th place. She needs 9 to tie Svetlana Abrosimova.
• Paige Bueckers reached the 1000-point milestone, early in the second half in the game against North Carolina. The two points broke the halftime tie, and were the start of a UConn run. Paige ties Maya Moore reaching the milestone in 55 games, the fewest of any UConn player.
