Napheesa Collier has led UConn in scoring five of the eleven games. That is one more than Katie Lou. She has also led the Huskies in rebounding four times. Gabby has done it six times. Pheesa is kind of a cross between KLS in scoring & Gabby in rebounding.
For the season, Collier is 1st in made baskets (87), made free throws (36) and blocked shots (19). She is 2nd in points (216 vs 227), rebounding (89 vs 90), and steals (23 vs 30). Her shooting percentage is 62.6% from the field. No one else is even in the 50% range. Napheesa is averaging 31.7 minutes per game and rarely looks tired.
If Geno had a laboratory and could build a player to complement his other stars, it would be Napheesa.
Go Huskies..!!

Eleven games into the season and UConn is 11-0, improving every game and getting ready for yet another big test against Maryland. Many statistics are what you would expect, like Katie Lou Samuelson leading the team in scoring or Kia Nurse playing the most minutes. However, there are a few stats that seem odd and out of place. For example, Katie Lou, the 2nd tallest Husky at 6'3", has only 1 blocked shot. Gabby at 5'11" has 10 and Napheesa, at 6'1", has 19. Weird...
Other strange statistics include the following:
1. In 242 minutes of play, Crystal Dangerfield has tried only 6 free throws. Kyla Irwin also has 6, but in just 60 minutes.
2. Saniya Chong has attempted only 12 three point shots, making just 4. Those 4 made threes are less than Napheesa's 6.
3. Gabby Williams has 51 assists to lead the Huskies..!! Last season, she had 51 for the whole season..!!
4. UConn only has 1 more blocked shot (41 vs 40) than their opponents.
5. Saniya has an amazing 5.0 assist to turnover ratio. Her 25 assists vs only 5 turnovers leads the team.
6. Gabby leads the team in assists

and rebounding. First time that has happened since Maya.
7. KLS is shooting 48.2% from inside the 3 pt arc, and 47.4% from outside it. That's less than 1% difference.
Of course, many stats are just what is expected. Consider:
1. UConn has twice as many assists as their opponents (230 vs 114).
2. The Huskies have made more three pt shots than opponents have made free throws (84 vs 72).
3. Opponents are shooting just 36% from the field, 27% from three point range.
Go Huskies..!!

This season, UConn is again shooting more free throws than their opponents, 187 to 116. The Huskies are also making a higher percentage from the charity stripe, 78.1% vs 62.1%. The free throw defense is definitely better, since in the past two seasons, opponents made 67.5% and 68.7% of their free throws.
UConn's 146 made free throws are more than twice the 72 opponents have made. That works out to just under 7 points per game advantage for the Huskies. The majority of those points are coming from three of the Core Four players, Katie Lou, Napheesa and Kia. KLS is 34-41 or 82.9%, while Pheesa is 36-44 or 81.8%. Kia is better than both of them at 36-40 or 90%. Together, those three are 106-125 or 85%. Interestingly, their 4th quarter accuracy is actually better than when the game starts. They don't miss free throws, even when tired.
Geno has always emphasized not fouling shooters. Opponents have been fouled 154 times, but only taken 116 charity tries. Of those attempts, they have made only 72. UConn, on the other hand, has been fouled a total of 191 times and taken 187 free throws, and made 146. That is almost one free throw for every foul. So, when it comes to fouls and free throws, the Huskies foul less, make more and don't get tired.
