How far has the Rutgers program fallen? What the heck is going on? Bad recruiting? Cviv totally lost her touch?
They lost Thursday night to Duke 68-32. THIRTY-TWO???
They shot 25% from the field, 3-15 on threes, 3-8 on free throws, 20 turnovers. Just awful.
The Scarlett Knights are now 1-6, 1-2 at home. UGLY!
They really miss guard Tyler Scaife, who averaged 17.2 points last season. She is our for the season after having surgery for an undisclosed injury.

Several season highs were reached by UConn in the DePaul game Thursday night. What was supposed to be a challenge, turned into rout. In the process, the Huskies raised their season totals in various statistics to new highs. For example, opponents are now only scoring 57.3 points per game, while UConn has raised their average to 82.5 per game. Another important average is assists, which now stand at 129 in six games, an average of 21.5 per game. Last season that average was 21.6 per game. Four Huskies are now averaging in double figures for scoring with KLS, Collier, Gabby and Kia all between 20.3 and 10.2 pts per game.
UConn defensive effort against DePaul set new records, this season, for fewest points allowed in the 1st period (6), best field goal defense (25%) and most turnovers (24). For the season, opponents are only making 33.3% of their shots, 25.4% of their threes and 65.3% of their free throws. UConn's assist/turnover ratio is now 1.52 while opponents' is 0.60 in six games. After being behind all season, UConn now has the same number of blocked shots (24) as the bad guys. Finally, the point differential is now 151 points as the Huskies have scored 495 pts versus 344 for opponents.
Sunday, UConn plays Texas, followed by Notre Dame on Wednesday. Those two games will test the progress this young team has made so far this season.
Go Huskies..!!
And one more -
The DePaul Blue Demons were supposed to test the young UConn Huskies at Gampel Pavilion. The #1 shooting 3 point team in the country was making an average of over 13 threes per game and had just crushed #9 Syracuse with 19 three point baskets. By the end of the night, the stat sheet was full of numbers that needed to be double checked. And then checked again... Consider:
1. UConn started well, scored often and opened a 31 point lead, IN THE 1st PERIOD..!!
2. The Huskies had a player exploded for 33 points..KLS? Pheesa..? No, Kia Nurse..!!
3. DePaul missed 33 three point shots and finished shooting 17% from outside the arc..!!
4. Napheesa Collier shot 90% (9-10) from inside the arc, and that was less than the 92% she made from the previous game..!!
5. The team leader in assists had 10..!! Crystal..? Saniya..? No, Gabby Williams..!!
6. Kyla Irwin outscored Gabby 4 points to 2.
7. Katie Lou was the leading rebounder with 7..!!
8. UConn made 13 three point baskets, not DePaul..!!
9. Natalie Butler blocked a three point shot 25 feet from the basket..!!
10. Kia Nurse had 12 baskets. So did the top four scorers for DePaul, COMBINED..!!
Video review has confirmed that UConn was only playing five players at a time on defense. It certainly seemed like more, on a night that saw quite a few strange results. Also, everyone was wearing their correct jersey number. We actually saw what we saw...
