I'm leaving this here until the voting ends on 3/23. Please vote!!!!

My wonderful and talented cousin Ted Fink has a songwriter competition for one of his songs.

He sent out the instrumental and we were supposed to send in lyrics. The song is called Riffin’.
Riffin’ is when you just make up music without lyrics for example on a guitar.
I made it to the final four!!! Now it’s time for the public to vote.

There are four entries and mine is No. 3 and it’s called Riffin’. I should win just for having the right name!!!

So here is the link. Vote early, often, and for No. 3.....me!!!

And check out his books. Ted is a wonderful storyteller and author!

My granddaughter Noa had another Cheer competition in Orlando today. This was the UCA International All-Star Championship.

Her team won her age/gym size competition. So proud of these young ladies.

As you all know, UConn beat up on South Florida 81-45 in a game that wasn't even THAT close. Geno was close to giddy in the halftime interview. He gushed over the UConn defense and he couldn't whip the smile off his face. I think having Olivia Nelson-Ododa protecting the rim has allowed the rest of the players to be more confident and aggressive in their on the ball pressure. Because of that, the defense has been spectacular. In this game they held USF to 26% from the field and 1-15 on threes with 15 turnovers.

Offensively, UConn got contributions from the usual suspect plus more! Collier was spectacular again. She scored 23 points on 9-14 shooting and was 3-4 on threes. If she can keep that long range shooting on target, well, Katy bar the door, UConn is going to be tough to beat. Megan Walker looked like the No. 1 recruit out of HS in this game. She had 24 points and 7 tough rebounds. She just looked really good. Christyn Williams was efficient, going 5-6 for her 10 points. I especially liked her pull up jumpers. She hit several of those. And of course, Molly Bent had her obligatory three pointer!

Here are the post game interviews

So, UCF it is! They beat Cincinnati in a tough game 66-58.

You know it's going to be crazy physical. These two teams have played twice this season with UConn hammering Central Florida 93-57 in the first game and in a real physical game, UConn beat UCF 78-41.  Here are highlights from both games. You will notice that UConn ran out to big early leads. I'm sure that UCF is well aware of that and will do everything they can to slow down the Huskies early.

Central Florida is basically a team that relies on it's defense to win games. They average only 55.4 points per game allowed. They have held eight teams under 50 points and even one under 40 points. They number that really stands out to me is 19.8. That is how many turnovers they force each game. That is pretty impressive. The Knights pretty much force mistakes.

They use all their players, even in the competitive games. In the first UConn game they had 8 players in double digit minutes.

While UCF is great defensively, they are pretty much offensively challenged. As a team they shoot only 41% from the field and 34% on threes.

Central Florida is led by Korneila Wright, a 5'7" junior guard. She averages 18.0 ppg and a team leading 3.6 assists per game. She is a dynamic player and UConn will have to put some pressure on her like they did in the first game where UConn held her to 8 points.

No one else stands out statistically for the Knights. The rest of the starters are 5'11" senior guard Sydnee McDonald, 5'8" senior guard Jamesha Paul, 6' redshirt senior guard and leading rebounder Nyala Shuler and 5'11" redshirt junior forward Tolulope Omokore. Shuler was hot from the outside against UConn the first time going 3-4 on threes.

Off the bench they play 6'3" sophomore forward Masseny Kaba, 5'8" senior guard Kayla Thigpen, 5'8" senior guard Lawriel Wilson and 5'8" freshman guard Diamond Battles.

Kaba was terrific in the game against Cincinnati. She had 13 points, several off big offensive rebounds. UConn will have to keep a body on her.

I just don't see how UCF can keep this that close let alone win this game. I think it will be close and UCF does keep UConn from running away early. But the Huskies just have too much talent even without Samuelson. I  expect a closer game than the 35+ point wins UConn had in the first two games. UConn by 20+.

Congrats to the conference champions!!!

Mississippi State won the SEC title with an easy win over Arkansas.
Notre Dame won the ACC title with an easy win over Louisville
Iowa won the Big Ten title with an easy win over Maryland

Sense a pattern?

I'm hoping it holds true with the AAC final tomorrow in favor of UConn!!

Stanford beat Oregon 64-57 to win the PAC 12 tournament championship!! This was a fun game to watch. Lots of good defense and some really clutch shooting. For Stanford to beat this team after losing by 44 points, that's FORTY FOUR POINTS, in the last game they met....well....just amazing.

Special shout out to Megan Gustafson, who scored 45 points in Iowa's win against Maryland.

Iowa Hawkeyes forward Megan Gustafson (10) reacts to an and one play in the first half against the Maryland Terrapins in the women's Big Ten Conference Tournament at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

By David in Naples!!!!!

Sometimes it is easy to tell when a game is over by halftime. The South Florida was that kind of game. Here’s the top 7 reasons it was over after just 20 minutes.

1. USF had 15 pts, Napheesa had 18.
2. USF had more turnovers (9) than baskets (7).
3. USF had more fouls (8) than three point shots (6).
4. UConn shot 61% from the field, USF 23%.
5. USF missed 23 shots, The Huskies just 11.
6. The Huskies blocked 3 shots, had 3 steals and didn’t allow a free throw.
7. USF’s starters only scored 11 points on 5-20 shooting.

UConn wins 81-45 and plays Monday in their 6th straight AAC tournament final.

Go Huskies..!!
