How much better was Breanna Stewart in her last year at UConn, than in her first? She was darn good in both and National Championships resulted. Still, the improvement was measurable. Consider:
1. Points - Stewie scored 497 points freshman year, 3rd highest on the team. Senior year, she poured in 716. That's a 44% improvement.
2. Rebounds - Breanna had a respectable 229 boards in 2012-13, but dominated this season with 323. Another 41% jump.
3. Assists - The single biggest improvement area with Stewie going from 35 as a frosh to 147 as a senior. Can you say 320% better..!!
4. Blocked shots - The 74 her first year was good. The 126 this season was spectacular. Up 70%.
5. Three point % - As a rookie, she made 28 threes on 33% shooting. It got better with 46 threes on 43% accuracy.
6. Minutes - Stewie played 854 minutes that first year, but logged 1,077 minutes or 29.1 per game this year.
7. Turnovers - The only stat that stayed the same..!! Turnovers only went to 60 from 54.
8. Free throws - Stewie improved from 77.7% (87-112) to 83.6%. But her 146 attempts was a 30% jump.
From a gangly rookie with tons of talent, to a mature team leader on a mission. Four years went fast.
Good luck Stewie..!!
