UConn has an interesting bracket. They have a shot at playing against Syracuse in the second round. SU was certainly a former Big East rival. Rarely competitive with UConn, some fans (including me) have not forgiven their coach for not agreeing to a game in Stewarts season year for her homecoming. Also a possible Maryland rematch. And if not, UConn would go against Duke again, but the first time since their coach decided not to play against the Huskies during the regular season.
The 5-12 matchup between Tennessee and Dayton, always a tough out. The flyers live and die by the three pointer and shoot it fairly well. They also have a 6'5" senior center that UConn played against that could be a challenge for Mercedes Russell. After that, if the Lady Vols win, they will probably play No. 4 Louisville IN Louisville. That could be a great game.
Notre Dame might have a rematch with the team that beat them last season, Stanford for a chance to make the final four. It won't take much to inspire the Irish in that game.
Here is my UConn/Albany Pre Game Report.

Fun with Numbers looks again at UConn's team statistics for the regular season and AAC tournament. Having examined stats where the Huskies shine, we will see where UConn might fall short. For example, the Huskies rank 107th in rebounds per game at 39.3 per game. Several reasons come to mind for this shortfall. Reason #1 is the graduation of Stewie. 😎 Mainly, this is function of good offensive shooting, limited height in the starting lineup and giving up too many offensive rebounds.
Interestingly, UConn ranks 76th in three point tries with 643. Given all the headlines about Katie Lou, fans might have predicted UConn was a top 20 three point shooting team. Actually, they are ranked 19th in made threes with 254 and therefore, 3rd in accuracy. Don't have to try that many if you make 40% and have Napheesa down low.
One area the Huskies have improved on, since early in the year, is blocked shots. Without Stewie, Stokes or Dolson before that, it has fallen to Pheesa and Gabby to step up. (Or jump up.) With 158, the Huskies now rank 30th in the nation. Baylor is #1 with 264.
All these stats now don't matter. The tournament is one and done, lose & go home..!!
Go Huskies..!!
