IMPORTANT INFO!!!!
The UConn game against Temple has been moved to Saturday at Noon. The game is still televised as it would have been on Sunday on SNY.
*********************************************************
Temple is really struggling this season, coming into this game at 4-12 and 0-4 in conference play. A tough season for former UConn assistant coach, Head Coach Tanya Cardoza. They've had a bad season last year after coming off a 24 win season the year before.
I haven't seen them play this season but one thing I noticed is that they have had 10 different players start games. That means that Tonya is struggling to find the right combination. And it looks like they have had a few injury problems.
Temple is just a bad shooting team. They only hit 38% of their total shots and 28% of their three point shots. Ugh. They also have a horrible assists/to stat with only 186 assists and 282 turnovers. Double Ugh. Their only wins are against LaSalle, Iona, Delaware State and Saint Joseph's.
Their leading scorer and rebounder is 6' forward Sophomore Mia Davis who is averaging 18.3 ppg and 8.3 rpg. She can hit her three point shot, hitting at 48% but she only takes on average 2 per game. 5'4" grad student Alliya Butts is still there for her 27th season (just kidding) and she is the only other player in double figure scoring at 14 per game. She is the leading assist maker with almost 5 per game. It's always fun to see her match up with 5'5" Crystal Dangerfield!
I can't see this game being, well, much of a game. UConn is going to eventually come out of their shooting slump. Temple always plays tough D so maybe not this game. But this will be a blowout.
UConn by 40+.

As I mentioned in yesterday's blog the big news was that Mississippi State's 6'1" forward Chloe Bibby was injured one minute into the game. It was announced Friday that she would miss the remainder of the season. This is a big loss for the Bulldogs. She was their 4th leading scorer at 12.6 per game and their best three point shooter at 45% and led the team with 36 makes. She made 1/3 of their three point shots.
So, Mississippi State has to make up her scoring and her outside shooting threat with probably two players, Bre'Amber Scott and former UConn players Andra Espinosa-Hunter. Scott did a great job in the South Carolina game playing a season high 27 minutes and scoring 11 points on 5-7 shooting. Espinosa-Hunter did hit a three pointer in her 15 minutes. MSU shouldn't miss a beat in the weak SEC but might have an issue late in the NCAA Tournament.

When the Tennessee teams were dominant in 1995 and before, their fans were dismissive of the UConn program. And certainly UConn did nothing to deserve more attention. But then 1995-96 happened and the fans were even more dismissive. When UConn starting winning more and more, their fans got downright nasty. And of course the UConn fans gave it back the more the Huskies would win championships.
Now we have 11 years since the last Tennessee title, and the Lady Vols have really fallen on hard times. No final fours for the same amount of time, and recently they are breaking all sorts of records and not the good kind.
The fans today are still as nasty as ever as shown by the game thread on Volnation.com for the Alabama game. They showed absolutely no class in their comments about the Crimson Tide. Here are just a few examples.
"holly has lost 4 in a row to kristy curry (whoever that is). "
"Look at that chunky short white chick. Our team makes her look like a moderately capable b-ball player."
"Whew. Bama coach. That is a voice only a mother could love. Such shrill."
"big bone girl killing us"
"This Bama team is **** and we are just as bad but with highly rated players."
"They got Violet from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory playing point guard for them and we can't beat them!"
"little chunky white girl wearing us out tooooooo"
"Getting beat by a high school team in a high school gym. "
"We are losing to a rec league team. "
Ok, I got tired of reading that thread. I'm sure there were more insults about Alabama, their players and their coach. What a bunch of arrogant losers.

She says this after every loss. Someone on one of the UConn message boards posted a post game interview with Holly. It was the one from last years loss to Alabama but you would have never known that from her comments.
Someone then posted the post game interview from after this game and I have to say, it was really hard to watch. This woman is falling apart. She was ready to cry and had no clue on what to do about her team. Not ONE clue.
I'm not sure I have seen a team without any confidence like this Lady Vol team and that comes from the top down. Here is a link to that interview. It's not for the faint of heart!!!
"I don't have an answer". Oh boy.

Fresh off Megan Walker's 34 point performance against Tulane, it might be interesting to check who has led the Huskies in scoring this season.
1. For the season, Katie Lou and Napheesa are way ahead of the pack with 311 and 279 points respectively.
2. Each Husky starter has been the high scorer in at least one game.
3. Lou has led in scoring 9 times, Pheesa 4 times.
4. Crystal's high was 19 points, Christyn's was 28 points and Megan's 34 points.
5. Samuelson's high was 26 points. She also scored 23, 22 (twice) and 20 points to lead in scoring.
6. Collier scored 24 points once to lead, but also 23 and 22.
7. The high scorer in the Baylor game was Pheesa with just 16 points.
The season average for Katie Lou is 19.4 pts per game. The other four starters have averages as follows:
Napheesa = 17.4 pts per.
Megan = 12.6 pts per.
Crystal = 12.1 pts per.
Christyn = 12.1 pts per.
Very balanced scoring with each player capable of carrying the team in a particular game.
Go Huskies..!!
P.S. Unbelievable stat of the week.
Duke is 8-8. How did they ever win 8 games...?
