No soapbox today. I think I've said enough. I'm more interesting now in talking about my view on the team, not the folks who are so negative. I'm not promising I won't hammer a few "negatoids" in future blogs, but not in this one!!!

No. 19 South Carolina had an easy time with "soon to be out of the Top 25" Missouri, hammering the Tigers 79-65. The oft injured Bianca Cuevas-Moore is looking to make some contributions her final season with the Gamecocks and her outside shooting really helps South Carolina with their usual low scoring offense. In this she was 3-4 in the first half helping South Carolina to a 14 point lead and the Gamecocks did just enough to maintain that lead to the end.

South Carolina has now won 9 of 10 games and is looking like the second best team in the SEC right now. They could give UConn a tough game in February!

Well, I'll be a Lady Vol's Uncle!! Tennessee lost to Arkansas Monday night 80-79 on a jumper by Malica Monk with 3.6 seconds left in the game. Tennessee inbounded the ball to their leading scorer Evina Westbrook but the pass was not firm, and the defender forced Westbrook to have to tip the ball. By the time she grabbed it, all she could do was put up a contested three from just off the out of bounds line. The shot was short and now Tennessee is 1-5 in the SEC and 12-6 on the season.

I actually thought that Tennessee would win this game. They were down by nine at the half and it looked bad. A late run got them to

within 4 points going into the fourth quarter and then Tennessee had a big run to take the lead with 6 minutes left in the game 70-65. That was an 11-2 run and I was sure (for some reason) that Tennessee would pull away. But this is just not the Tennessee team we've seen in past years. I should know that by now. Arkansas tied it on a three free throws when Westbrook fouled on a 3 point shot. Not a smart play. It was back and forth until finally Monk his that shot.

The Lady Vols were led by Westbrook with 27 points and freshman Zae Green had 17 points. The rest of the team was 12-37 from the field. This is just a really weak team, mostly mentally.
The Lady Vols have lost 5 in a row since 1970 before Pat Summit was the coach. And guess what? They next have to play No. 1 Notre Dame. Maybe they will get it together and surprise everyone including themselves and make a game of it? But the odd are that the Irish will run away with this one. I've seen not so talented teams drive past the Tennessee defenders time after time, so I can only imagine what Arike Ogunbowale and the Fighting Irish will do to them.

Looking forward to Thursday night to see how that game goes.

Even with her 30 point performance against Temple, Napheesa Collier remains in 13th place on the UConn all-time scoring list. Her 1,918 points is 82 away from 2,000 points. However, on the way to 2,000, she will pass Renee Montgomery and Bria Hartley at 1,990 and 1,994. That will place her 11th all-time. So, 73 points to pass Renee & 77 to eclipse Bria. That will take Pheesa a few games, even against AAC teams.

Meanwhile, Katie Lou is alone in 10th place with 2,033 points. Next up for her is Rebecca Lobo 100 points away. After Lobo, Wolters is only another 8 pts away and Taurasi is 15 on top of that...!! Very reachable, but will take 5-6 games. Both are getting up into rare air..!!
