Well, the time has come for me and my lovely wife to make the long ride back to Connecticut. We are leaving Florida Monday morning and will take 3 days to make the ride home.

It was a great 7 weeks. So great that we booked the same condo for February and March next year. I'm already looking forward to coming back.

We got to spend a lot of time with my son and his family. I will miss them and especially my beautiful granddaughters Noa and Mya.

I got to play plenty of golf. 12 times if I'm not mistaken. The weather in Connecticut could mean that I could be playing pretty quickly when we get back. I'll be all warmed up and beating all my friends!!!

I will miss my malted milkshakes from Brendy's. I might have had 12 of those as well!!

But it's always good to get home. On the way I will watch the UConn game in the hotel of where ever we end of stopping on Monday.

And of course, I'll find a way to blog on the trip home. You can count on that.

UConn Houston game Highlights

UConn Houston Top Five Plays

*****************************************************

UConn is taking on South Florida in their second match up of the season. This time at home. In the first game UConn went to 30-0 against South Florida after beating the Bulls 67-47.

It was a tale of two halves as UConn came out like a Final Four contender in the second half. After going 10-29 in scoring 25 points in the first half they were 18-29 in scoring 42 points in the second half. Their defense was much better as well. After starting out 5-6 on threes to take their early lead in the first quarter, they were 1-12 for the remainder of the game. And after scoring 29 points in the first half they scored only 18 points in the second half and only 6 points in the fourth quarter.

Megan Walker led the Huskies in scoring with 21 points on 8-12 shooting. This was a good game for Olivia Nelson-Ododa. She was aggressive around the basket finishing strong on a few baskets. She score 20 points on 9-12 shooting and had 8 rebounds, 4 blocks and 2 steals. And along with Dangerfield and Williams, she played the entire 40 minutes.  The 1/2 star goes to freshman Aubrey Griffin, who's second half defensive effort of five steals helped propel UConn to their victory.

5'7" freshman guard Elena Tsineke from Greece is the leading scorer at 12.6 points per game but takes a lot of shots to get there. She is only shooting 40.1% from the field and 32% on threes.

Running the team is 5'8" Sophomore point guard Elisa Pizan from Italy. She averages around 10 points per game and a little over 4 assists per game as well. She can't be left open from deep as she is shooting a solid 38.5 percent on threes. She scored 15 points against UConn in the first match up of the season.

Junior forward, 6' Bethy Mununga from Belgium does a great job on the boards as an undersized post. Lots of determination and desire is behind her grabbing 9.9 rebounds per game.

The other two starters in their last game were 5'10" sophomore guard Sydni Harvey from Nashville and Shae  Leverett a 6'2" center from Ricon, Georgia.

Off the bench is a player that I thought would be a really good Division I player, but it looks to me that she has neve fulfilled her promise. That would be Senior Tamara Henshaw a lefty post player.  I remember her as a freshman against the Huskies and she really looked like a star in the making.

Overall, USF shoots only 39.7% from the field and 33.4% on threes. Not very good numbers. The other number that sticks out for me is the 17 turnovers per game.

UConn is playing really well and being the last regular AAC home game of the season and in UConn history, I expect the Huskies to have a really good game. It won't be as close as the last one.

The Huskies by 35+.

UPSET CITY!!!!

There were six upsets in the Top Twenty-five on Sunday but all but one of them were on the 13-19 range with the other being No. 25.

At this point of the season, none of these upsets are real surprises. There really is a lot more parity outside the top three for sure.

Well, maybe last place in the PAC12 California, who is now 11-18 after beating No. 13 Arizona 55-54, is a big surprise. The Wildcats were 1-16 on threes and that is difficult to overcome.

Future BE opponents had a tough battle, but No. 13 DePaul lost their second game of the week to unranked Marquette 90-83. Two losses might have moved DePaul out of the Top Twenty-five, but with all the other teams struggling this week, they may only move a few spots down.

Hey, Notre Dame is making a late season run winning their third consecutive game, this time against No. 19 Florida State beating the Seminoles 70-67. At 13-17, the Irish have no chance to make the tournament unless they win the ACC tournament. I'm thinking that is a long shot.

As you all know, I don't like when Notre Dame wins and really like when they lose. And the same goes for Tennessee. The Lady Vols beat Auburn 56-55 on a jumper by freshman Jordan Horston with .6 left in the game. This is after Horston fouled a three point shooter with 3.8 seconds left to lose the lead. Crazy game. And while the Lady Vols didn't lose, they barely beat a now 10-17 Tigers team. Tennessee had 24 turnovers in this game. Many really ugly. Rennia Davis had a very good game with 22 points and 10 rebounds. She was the only player in double figures, took 18 of their 51 shots and it wouldn't have been close without her. I can only imagine how they will be next season if she decides to leave for the WNBA. A win is a win, but Tennessee is just a terrible team.
