Kyla had surgery on her fractured elbow Monday. The surgery went well and hopefully we will see her on the bench for the NCAA tournament to do a one hand high fives after UConn hits a three pointer.

Here are her final stats for this season.

55.2% from the field
46.2% on threes
3.1 ppg
2.6 rpg

She had some really nice games and I know that Geno loved what she brought to the team.

Heal well, Kyla and thanks for everything!!!

139-0 in the conference. Every player of the year award. Every tournament MVP.  Seven conference championships and seven conference tournament  championships in seven years.

Total AAC domination.

The Huskies, after another slow start (am I repeating myself?) poured it on and beat Cincinnati 87-53, a tidy 34 point win.

UConn was cold from the outside going 6-20 on threes, but still hit a terrific 53.6% overall. UConn used it's height advantage and outrebounded the Bearcats 51-31.

Megan Walker is showing us all how complete her game is. I would love to find all the posts on the message boards that have killed her over the years. She was just outstanding in her 37 minutes. Megan scored 26 points and added 7 rebounds. But she really looked to take the ball inside more than usual. Just like she dominated physically in high school, she is now doing the same at the college level.

UConn fans have been clamoring for Christyn Williams to play like the No. 1 recruit she was in 2018, and in this game she was "Notre Dame" Williams. I'm sure we all remember her game against the Irish her freshman season. In her 35 minutes, 9-13 from the field, 2-4 on threes, 2-2 on free throws in scoring 22 points and she added 8 rebounds. If this is the Williams we have for the rest of the season, I like their chances to upset Oregon (if that is their opponent) to get to the final four again.

Crystal "Guns" Dangerfield played like she was 6'5" and not 5'5". She was all over the boards and her put back 2 pointer at the end of the half was a real kick to see. She had 14 points and 8 rebounds. Her pull up shot coming off screens is just deadly.

Olivia Nelson-Ododa is playing really strong and in this game she was great. Her up fake and baseline drive to the basket was something I hadn't seen from her before. Coaches Daily and Elliott are working her hard and it's paying off. She had another double double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. She made some beautiful passes as well. And her four blocks and many more intimidations were a big part of UConn's pulling away.

I just love Anna Makurat. She sees what the team needs and then supplies it. She is doing a great job facilitating and in this game it was playmaking. She had 8 points and 8 assists. Some of those assists were beautiful touch passes. I can't wait to see her on the court with Paige Bueckers. The defender's heads will have to be on a swivel.

Not much from the bench in this game, although Griffin's 11 minutes were solid. And it's always great to see Adebayo and Camara score. Both on nice post moves.

So, now we wait until next Monday night to see where UConn plays. According to Charlie Creme, he is convinced that they will be out west and be in Oregon's region. Bring em on!!!!

Hopkins senior Paige Bueckers holds her Gatorade 2020 National Girls Player of the Year award with Timberwolves star Karl Anthony-Towns.
No surprise here, as Paige Bueckers won the Gatorade National Player of the Year award. She follows her BFF Azzi Fudd, who won it last year as a sophomore (will she win it in 2020-21??).

NBA star of the Minnesota Timber Wolves Karl-Anthony Towns gave her the award.

In typical Paige fashion, she was grateful for the award but is more interested in winning another state title with her teammates.

In a game that will impact at least one at large team, No. 11 Gonzaga blew a big lead and lost to Portland for the first time in 11 years 69-68. Someone else will win the WCC conference championship and that will take away an available slot for someone else.

So, one of the "last 4 in" teams is shit out of luck. Too bad it won't keep Tennessee out of the tournament. I'm tired of hearing how they are the only team to play in every NCAA tournament. It's time that streak ends.

Congrats to Coach Bruno and DePaul on winning the last Big East Tournament before UConn starts winning them. The Blue Demons beat Marquette 88-74 for their third consecutive BE title. Did they do enough get a spot in the Top 16 and a 4 seed? I hope so!

Image result for stats don't lie

By David in Naples!!!!

Things I learned from tonight’s victory over Cincinnati:

1. Apparently Squeaks can shoot a basketball. She went 9-13 for 22 points.
2. The Huskies got the rebounding Dangerfield. 8 rebounds. That’s more than Aubrey or Megan.
3. Olivia’s double-double was odd. 11 points, 11 rebounds.
4. Megan can shoot her way out of a slump. Starting 1-7, she then went 9-14.
5. Anna & Aubrey takes turns doing what the other doesn’t, but it totals 10. Rebounds, 7 and 3. Assists, 8 and 2. Points, 2 and 8.
6. Nine players got on the court, only 1 didn’t score.
7. UConn went 139-0 in the AAC. Farewell..!

Go Huskies..!!

  1. Someone will "upset" Maryland. I don't believe they are a 1 seed and wish so bad that UCONN was in their bracket to prove it.
