I would have never believed this could happen if you asked me a couple of weeks ago. It's almost beyond comprehension.

Sports is such a big part of the fabric of this nation. We basically match up the seasons with the sports. Baseball - spring training and the Boys of Summer. Football starts in earnest in the fall and carries  through the heart of the winter. Pro basketball and hockey are long seasons and are a basically winter sports.

And of course, March madness, the culmination of the college basketball season for the men and women teams.

We watch the games, read the articles, record and watch again. For the folks that read this blog, I know we share a passion for UConn women's basketball and to have it ripped away from us just when the tournament was going to start is painful. So painful.

For me it's doubly painful. I will miss the games for sure. But I will miss writing my blog every day. My friend who continue to work because they don't know how to fill their time if they stop ask me how I do it. I seem to happy in retirement. Well, I work part time for my catering friend. I babysit for the grandkids. I golf. And golf. And golf. And of course writing my blog.

I would guess that I spend around 15-20 hours a week writing, google searching, and just pondering how I can fill up this space. There are times where I have no idea what I am going to write about. I peruse the message boards looking for ideas. I'll look at some of the articles that I find and see an interesting topic that I can opine about. Sometimes I'll just look at the team stats and see something that grabs my attention and I'll share it here.

So now what? How to I fill that time? Well, I was going to stop in a month anyway as the season would have been over.  So I'll go into post season mode a little earlier. I get my 7-10 PM time back. I'm sure my wife will be happy to have my attention more often. Maybe. I still might get the itch and find something UConn to write about and you can bet I'll share it with you.

I will really miss the interaction I get from many of you and the reaction to what I post every night.

More importantly, please take this virus seriously. Do what the CDC says in regards to washing hands, staying away from crowds, and the other rules they have suggested here.

We are all in this together. Take care of each other. Be smart. Be sure. Be careful.

Well, something to write about. Paige Bueckers' high school team Hopkins played in the Minnesota state Girls semi-final game and easily beat Stillwater 66-40.

Paige's official stats were 18 Points, 7 Rebounds 4 Assists although I think she had a few more. I found these stats. 15 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. I'm not sure which are correct. I'll just take the best of each one and say she had 18 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists.

They move on to the finals and I'll add if they have them. I am kinda surprised that they played this game with all the sports that have been cancelled and that many high schools and colleges are totally closed. There was a big crowd there Thursday night. Crazy.

So, guess who was in attendance at this game? Paige's BFF Azzi Fudd, only the No. 1 player in the class of 2021 and the previous Gatorade HS POY as a sophomore. When I see things like the following tweet, it's hard to believe they won't be playing together for three years.

DAVID'S FINAL STATS BEFORE THE TOURNAMENT WAS CANCELLED

Lately, UConn has been running the offense through Anna Makurat just as much as Crystal Dangerfield. So how do their stats compare this season? Despite playing 218 fewer minutes, Anna's raw numbers are comparable. For example, Crystal has 118 assists & Anna is at 105. Crystal has 52 turnovers vs 57 for Anna. Rebounds are close, but favor Anna 126 to 111. Crystal has more steals, 55 to 47. Some of the stats are different, but the extra minutes often played explain it.

For example, Crystal has scored 448 points in 1,061 minutes. That is a point every 2.36 minutes. Anna has 252 points in 843 minutes. That is 3.34 points per minute. But, if you compare shots per minute, the difference is simple, Crystal shoots more. As far as accuracy, both have hit 41% of their three-point shots. Inside the arc, Crystal has a slightly better shooting %. Crystal is a senior and has taken on an increased scoring role. Anna is a freshman and is just finding her role on the team. But, she is gaining confidence and that helps the Huskies immensely in the NCAA tournament.

Go Huskies..!!
