GO BIG EAST!!!

St. John's started the Big East post season off with a win over Big Ten team Purdue 64-62.

They take on North Carolina next. Don't be surprised if the Red Storm gives the Tarheels fits in this game.

Plenty of opening round games on Friday.

Possible upsets tomorrow:

10 Georgia over 7 Florida State - Super Freshman for FSU is out with an injury. No way they are a 7 seed without her.

10 Princeton over 7 NC State - I just have a feeling here and I'm rooting hard for Carla Berube!!

Notre Dame announced on Thursday that star player point guard Olivia Miles will miss the NCAA tournament with her knee injury.

This is a big blow for the Irish. Miles is their second leading scorer, has by far the most assists and steals. More than her stats, she is the leader of this team, even more so when Mabrey was lost for the season a few weeks ago.

So, why did they wait so long for announce this? Well, the cynic in me says they didn't want the Selection Committee to base their seeding of Notre Dame on the loss of Miles. She is that much of a difference maker.

What did Notre Dame gain by doing this? The Committee gave Notre Dame a 3 seed and home games in the first two rounds. If they had announced before the seedings were announced, they might have been a 5 or 6 seed with no home games. A big difference.

Pretty slimey if you ask me. I think there should be sanctions for this obvious fraud. Maybe some recruiting allowances taken away.

This is from a Notre Dame fan - "If Notre Dame knew Miles couldn't play by selection Sunday and didn't inform the committee, I'm disappointed. If the committee placed us in the South Carolina region because they suspected our deception, then we deserved it and that makes me feel even worse. The rules state that you have to be truthful with the committee when they ask about injuries. This is NOT the same thing as keeping player availability under wraps before regular season, or even conference tournament games. That is allowable and smart. But the committee inquired about Miles's availability and Niele said that she did not know whether Miles could go or not. This may have been a violation of the rules."

I hope they lose a game at home. That would be fair.
