DoggyDaddy's Dailies 2/11/16

Congrats to Breanna Stewart, Moriah Jefferson and Morgan Tuck for being among the 34 players named to the midseason watch list for the Naismith Trophy.

And congrats to the Naismith voters for not having Diamond Deshields on the list.

I think the big news out of Storrs is Geno made it known that it Morgan Tuck asks him what she should do Senior Night, he would advise her to walk with her two classmates. He said this on Geno's radio show on WTIC with Bob Joyce.

Huge news. I thought she would stay, but it is looking more and more that she will leave.

Good for her, and I wish her good health in her WNBA career. She will be drafted high in spite of her cranky knee. With the Connecticut Sun getting the 3rd and 4th pick wouldn't it be fun if they take Jefferson and Tuck with those picks? And then Stewart to Seattle to play with KML and Sue Bird.

This certainly makes UConn a weaker team for 2016-17. But that is a discussion for another day.

I'm bringing back the "Uggy" Award after the performance of one of UConn's fellow AAC member.

Tulsa beat Houston 44-28 in one of the worst shooting performances of the season.

Tulsa was no great shakes either as they shot 18-58 from the field, 31.3% and 4-20 on threes, 20%.

But Houston took bad shooting to another level. They were 9-55 from the field, 16.3% and 3-18 on threes, 16.6%. This is so bad, it hurt my eyes to watch myself type it.

Congrats Houston on winning the Uggy. Just blow off the dust.

UConn stands undefeated, 23-0, and ready for a run at another AAC tournament title and possibly another National Championship. Several Husky stats stand out as either remarkable or quite odd. Consider:

1. Opponents have turned the ball over 504 times, but have only made 443 baskets. They are more likely not to get a shot off than to make a basket.
2. The two freshman, Collier and Samuelson, lead the Huskies in free throw accuracy with 90.3% and 87.5% respectively.
3. UConn has scored exactly 800 baskets and assisted on 498 of them. That is an assist rate of 62.3%. MoJeff already has 124 assists w/ one third of the season to go.
4. The Huskies have blocked 148 shots. That is 11.2% of opponents attempts. One out of nine shots never reaches the basket. ;)
5. UConn has now made 271 free throws (79.7%) while opponents have only made 104.
6. Only Kia Nurse has started all 23 of UConn's games.
7. Gabby and Napheesa lead the Huskies in offensive rebounds at 53 each.
8. UConn has 281 turnovers, but has made up for that with 281 steals. 8-)

Go Huskies..!!

Maria M. Cornelius ‏@mmcornelius
May I never have to listen to this broadcast crew again. Chipmunks would be better.

Maria M. Cornelius. This was her comment after the Tennessee/Texas A&M game this past Sunday that Tennessee once again lost a big lead in the second half and lost to A&M in OT, sending them out of the top 25 in the USA Today/Coaches Poll.

Who was one of the broadcasters? None other than UConn's own Sue Bird. Once you hear a little about this woman, you will understand her comment more. All Sue Bird did was tell the truth about Tennessee in this game. No surprise that she didn't like what she heard.

So, who is this Maria M. Cornelius? Well, right now she is the Lady Vols senior writer for InsideTennessee.com. She is also the main moderator for The Summit, the once public and now private Lady Vol message board. Boy, could I tell you stories about that place.

What I will share with you is that I am certain that she is the person that supplied Pat Summit with the printout of the Boneyard message board that was used in the 30+ page complaint about UConn to the NCAA back in 2006. Here is an ESPN article about that drama.

The article states that "information that supports the belief that the fans and former elite student-athletes at Connecticut continue to be involved in the recruiting process,"  and that "It would appear that the involvement of these individuals is outside the rules.".

The 30+ pages were message board posts about signs that fans were bringing to the game about Elena Delle Donne. Yes, UConn fans were accused of recruiting violations.

And this was all brought about by none other than this Maria C. Cornelius. She had intimate access to Summit, best buds, so to speak. One of the best things about Tennessee's struggles this year is how badly Cornelius must feel. Just look at her picture. She looks as miserable as she feels. She is one bitter, small and petty woman.
