If you haven't seen it yet here is my UConn/Tulane Post Game Report.

And here is my UConn/East Carolina Pre Game Report

******************************************************************************

I got a good look at South Carolina and I've already started my UConn/SC pre game report. I don't share all my thoughts, but sufficed to say, I learned a lot about this version of the Gamecocks.

South Carolina was without starting swing, Dozier and they lost Tiffany Mitchell to a lower back injury in the first half. But they still handled a game Kentucky team, 78-68.

Alaina Coates was terrific in this game, but Kentucky offered little resistance. Coates and A'ja Wilson dominated the post play with 27 points and 12 rebounds for Coates and Wilson had 18 and 7.

The rest of the team? Eh.

Look for my South Carolina Pre Game report shortly after the UConn/East Carolina game. Everything you need to know about this matchup and more!!

While it is possible that UConn will play a better game of basketball this season, the 96-38 beating of Tulane was classic. UConn scored 63 points in the 1st half while holding Tulane to 20. That 43 point lead was a high for the season. The Huskies shot 67% from the field in the 1st half (24-36), 50% from 3 pt range (4-8) and went 11-11 from the free throw line. Stewie scored on all 6 of her shots and went 6-6 from the free throw stripe. Also in the first half, UConn had 13 assists, 13 steals and forced 18 turnovers. Quite possibly the best half of basketball in a long while. ;)

Despite liberal substitutions by Geno, the rest of the game was not much better for Tulane. UConn's bench almost outscored Tulane's team 35-38.  Napheesa and Gabby scored 10 and 15 pts respectively, off the bench, and grabbed a combined 12 rebounds. After holding Tulane to 8 total points in the 1st period and 12 in the 2nd, UConn increased the defense and gave up only 4 points in the third period. For the game, UConn dominated with points in the paint 54-8, lead in points off turnovers 41-8 and scored more fast break points 14-2.

Tulane had a record of 15-6 prior to the UConn game. Despite being a decent team, they finished with only 15 baskets, only 8 assists and only 3 steals. Even worse, Tulane missed 37 shots, had 26 turnovers and shot 29% for the game. UConn made it look easy against a decent team. Go Huskies..!!

What a horrible call and dangerous play in the South Carolina game. On a drive by Tiffany Mitchell, the defender stepped in front of her after she was airborn and they called an offensive foul. It's one of my pet peeves, but refs miss this call all the time. One a player leaves their feet with the ball, the defender can't be moving....period. They miss this all the time. So why am I writing about it?

Well the dangerous part is why. It's ok that the defender tried to draw the foul, but she clearly walked under the offensive player, giving her no place to land. So Mitchell hit the floor hard on her back with no way to cushion the fall.

It was borderline dirty. And the refs should have made the call based on that.

I hate to see it take a player getting seriously injured to do something about it.

Hopefully Mitchell will be ok for the UConn game. She was smiling on the bench after she returned from the locker room although she didn't return to play.
