DoggyDaddy's Dailies 2/12/16

******************************************************************************

Big upset, well an upset anyway, in the Big Ten with Penn State going on the road to beat No. 17  Michigan State 65-61.

MSU had a 14 point lead with 6:40 left in the third quarter but the Nittany Lions fought their way back, closing to 6 points at the end of the quarter.

Penn State dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring the Spartans 21-11. A terrible loss for Michigan State. Penn State was 8-14 coming into this game and MSU was at home. This should hurt their NCAA seeding.

Duke loses again, this time by 16, 69-53 to 10th ranked Florida State.

Now 17-9 and 6-6 in the conference, Duke has four unranked teams to finish out the regular season, but they are on the road for three of them. They are still without their best player Azura Stevens and could be in big trouble if they don't split at the worst.

From David in Naples

UConn has scored 2,047 points this season through 23 games. That works out to 89.0 points per game.

Since WCBB has gone to four 10 minutes quarters this year, the Huskies scoring breaks down further to 556, 479, 543 and 469 points. Clearly, UConn scores the most points in the 1st period (556), followed closely by the 3rd period (543). This is interesting since opponents should be at their best at the beginning of games and after halftime.  Apparently, it doesn't matter to the Huskies how fresh or prepared the other guys are, they play their game and score well from the first tip off.

UConn has only given up 1,120 points this season. Opponents score the fewest points in the 1st period with 260. That is an amazing 296 points fewer than UConn. In many games, the contest is over by end of the 1st period. The next fewest points are scored in the 3rd period, 269. Again, that is 274 point advantage for the Huskies. Better recovery from the running in the first half and better halftime adjustments give UConn another dominating period in terms of scoring. Not surprisingly, opponents scored 29% or 321 points in the 4th period, when games have long been decided.

The difference between the 2,047 points scored by UConn and the 1,120 pts given up, comes out to a difference of 41.7 pts per game. That is the best in the nation.

Let me share one more Maria C. Cornelius story and this one is personal.

As I shared with you yesterday, Maria C. Cornelius is currently the Lady Vol senior writer for InsideTennessee.com. She has also been the main moderator for the Tennessee fan message board The Summit. Incredibly connected with the Tennessee program to the point where if Pat wanted a certain spin on a player situation, she would have Maria share info with the fan base through the message board.

Back in the day when I was a welcomed poster on The Boneyard, a UConn fan message board, I would frequent the Tennessee team site to read articles and view videos about the Lady Vols. I paid a small yearly fee to do so, but because it was a paid site, they frowned on sharing any of that information publicly.  I did it once and Maria complained loudly to the mods on The Boneyard to admonish me for doing that. After that I was always in compliance with that request.

However, (don't you love howevers?) After viewing one of Holly Warlick's press conference where she made some ridiculous statements, I noticed the video was on Youtube, available for anyone's viewing. I mean, how can a video of a public press conference be private?

So, of course I posted the video on The Boneyard, added my not so subtle comments about Warlick and the Lady Vols. Then the shit hit the fan.

Maria posted on The Summit that she had talked to her lawyer sister and was advised that this was against privacy laws or some such bullshit and that she should call the FBI. The friggin' FBI? Maria went on to say that was exactly what she did.

After I explained the availability of the video on YouTube, the moderator on The Boneyard contacted Maria where she had to now admit that she did not set the privacy setting on the YouTube and it was in the public domain.

Those Tennessee fans are nuts and she is the head looney.

I'm still waiting for the apology.
