From David in Naples
As the current seniors make their mark on UConn's all time records, the two freshman, Katie Lou Samuelson and Napheesa Collier, are quietly putting together a great season as spot starters and bench substitutes. Considering that UConn returned 4 starters, added the best freshman center from the new Big East and already had the best 6th man in basketball, KLS and Napheesa have put together impressive statistics. Each has played in all 23 games and they have started a combined 17 games. Here are their combined results.
1. They have played 921 combined minutes, over 40 minutes per game for the two freshman.
2. Together, KLS and Collier have scored 374 points for an average of 16.2 per game.
3. From inside the arc, they are 101-173 or 58.4%.
4. From the free throw line they are an amazing 49-55 or 89%.
5. Their combined assists (73) & turnovers (58) come out to a 1.25 ratio.
6. Their combined 207 rebounds are more than Stewie's 182 and their 59 steals are three shy of MoJeff's 62.
7. KLS leads the team in made three point shots with 41 & Napheesa leads the team in offensive rebounds (53), free throw % at 90.3% and is 2nd with 33 blocked shots.
Freshman often have up and down seasons. Katie Lou and Napheesa have had way more ups and have contributed nicely to UConn's 23-0 start as supporting players. Next season they will no doubt play even bigger, staring roles.

I'm always open for suggestions. Just please reply to this blog or email me at:
Samuelson and Collier will improve on D as well... they each will become scary good, IMO. They will need to, to replace the scary good D that is leaving.
ReplyDeleteWith respect to the interesting transfer stats you presented, 18 year olds today have different outlooks and priorities than when I was 18. "Getting to them", too, must be a different type of challenge. Fortunately for UConn, those with the inherently correct attitude/outlook/persona seem to aspire to UConn. That does help their maturation develop perhaps a little quicker at UConn.
You know everyone speaks to replacing Geno. The job, IMO, is to replace Geno & CD because CD is as much or more a part of the "young womens' side of their development, from a womens' perspective as Geno. The job is to replace two legends - - a Head Coach and an Asociate Head coach. Not going to be easy
