Here is my Ohio State Pre Game Report

That Baylor game where they scored 140 points and outscored their opponent 29-0 in the fourth quarter is a big topic of conversation on the message boards. The counter position to being upset with how Baylor destroyed their opponent was bringing up how UConn has done the same over the years and used a few games to point that out.

I'd say to those folks, UConn ALWAYS scores less points in the second half. Geno instructs his players stop fast breaking, run the shot clock and other methods to keep the score down. They in no way do what Baylor did.

Kelsey Mitchell has led Ohio State in scoring in 9 of their first 11 games. She is averaging 22.7 points per game, almost 10 points better than any other regular. Mitchell has taken 198 shots, the next closest are at 112 and 123. She also leads the team in assists with 44, while the next player in assists has 30. Her 36 turnovers also are highest on the team. It is fair to say she dominates the Ohio State offense, controlling the ball most times down the court. Want to stop the Buckeyes..? Stop Kelsey Mitchell.. 8-)

UConn has had four players lead the team in scoring in their 9 games. Collier has done it 4 times, KLS three times and Dangerfield and Nurse once each. The top three scorers for the Huskies average 19.8, 19.4 and 13.1 points per game. Gabby is 4th with an average of 10.8 pts per game. Crystal Dangerfield scored 19 against Baylor, but averages just under 7 per game. UConn has scoring balance and any of the Core Four can take over a game scoring points.

Assists are the same way, with Gabby at 43, Kia at 41, and Katie Lou and Crystal tied at 27. Want to stop UConn..? Well, that is just a bit harder to do.

Against Baylor, at the Gulf Coast Showcase in Naples, Mitchell shot 5-20 for 17 points before fouling out. With Kelsey held down, Ohio State scored only 68 points vs their average of 90.5 per game. Sounds like a game plan...
