It's going to be a slow few days with the holiday's approaching. No UConn games, no Top Twenty-Five games, and not much to talk about.

I do have a Maryland Pre Game Report in process. Look for that in the next few days.

I don't think many UConn fans thought they would still be undefeated, let alone the unanimous No. 1 team in the country at this point of the season. I was just looking back at some old post on the UConn message board before the season started. It's fun to see. I'll share a few. Yeah, not much new going on...lol.

"I have Baylor, SC, ND then either MD or The UConn. This isn't like some retired heavyweight champ un-retiring."

"This will be a year where the 1st place votes will be spread around weekly. I don't see anyone being a unanimous #1 at any point during November or maybe even December. "

"As far as UConn is concerned it's hard to imagine a situation in which virtually the complete leadership graduated; leaving (mainly) talented underclassmen, two starters, a much maligned senior point (who might just have a terrific year...but no one can tell); a talented big girl who hasn't produced much yet and three gifted freshman, one advertised as a real stand-out (whom did I leave out)?  If this team survives to win the first bunch of games, then without a doubt Geno and friends are the greatest coaching staff in the history of the sport."

I really can't blame these folks for feeling that way back then. I mean, you lose the two best players in WCBB, another really really good one and one would expect some downturn. The thing is, the downturn is the games are closer, not that UConn won't win them.

So far they have beaten teams that are currently ranked 2, 3, 7, 12, 16 and 24. And they will play teams that are ranked 4, 6 and 21 (twice). If they can win the last four games against ranked teams, they will be 28-0 going into the AAC tourney. It should be a great last 17 games before tournament games.

Geno Auriemma started coaching UConn in 1985, after four seasons as an assistant at Virginia. Against Nebraska, Geno coached his 1,100th game for the Huskies. His record in those 1,100 games is 966-134. That gives Geno a winning percentage of .878%. Geno was the fastest coach to reach the 900 win plateau and owns the highest winning percentage in women and men basketball. His record in National Championships games is 11-0. The current Huskies have won 86 straight games and are trying to break their own 90 game win streak. Both are the longest in women's college basketball.

Geno's first UConn team went 12-15 and his 2nd team went 14-13. Those were the two worst records for the Huskies during Geno's tenure. UConn had their first 20+ win season in 1988 (24-6) and their first 30+ win season in 1993 (30-3). In the 1994-95 season, the Huskies went 35-0 and won their 1st National Championship.

Geno will be 63 on his next birthday on March 23rd.

Go Huskies!!
