With the UConn/Maryland game coming up, the Terp fans are out in force on the UConn message boards promoting their team's chances of winning.

Let me help them out with a few facts.

Maryland fan - Chong vs Slocun - No way in hell this is an advantage for UConn. Just because Slocum is a freshman doesn't mean she's at a talent disadvantage (especially on her home court). I heard on this board that Chong is slow and if that is the case Destiny will blow by her at will. On defense, Slocum plays very, very hard and is very good at getting steals.

Well, I will say that Slocum is a very talented player. She might have the advantage over Chong in raw talent. But she has played only one competitive team in Louisville where she was 3-8 from the field and 1-3 on threes. She did have 4 assists but she also had 3 turnovers. And that very good at getting steals player had zero in that game. Oh yeah. Chong is not slow, no matter what a poster on the UConn message board said.

Also, one important thing you left out.
Maryland bench (Fraser, Gillespie, Watson, Smalls, SJones) vs UConn bench Dangerfield, Butler + for Maryland. Hopefully none of the UConn players caught Geno's cold. If they did it will be a long game for UConn. Especially in the 4th quarter. I think Fraser could be huge in the game. She has played very well this season.

Really? Bringing up Geno's cold? Talk about desperate. Let me straighten out this guy about benches. You can only play 5 players at a time and any time your weaker players are in, it's advantage UConn. Long game for UConn? When have you seen them tired in the fourth quarter? And Fraser? the 6.7 ppg and 4.8 rpg player will be huge? I hope she sees 20 minutes or more.

We will find out soon enough. Can't wait for the game.

UConn has scored exactly 880 points in 11 games. That gives them an average of exactly 80 points per game. Their low point total was 72 points in the Baylor, Texas and Notre Dame games. The Huskies also scored 75 points against Kansas State, 76 versus LSU and 78 against Florida State. UConn has scored in the 80's three times, including 80 against Chattanooga, 82 versus Ohio State and 84 in the game with Nebraska. The two highest point totals were 91 points in the DePaul game and 98 against Dayton.

Defensively, the most points UConn has given up this season was 76, in the first game of the season at FSU. Since then, no one has scored more than 65 (Dayton). Notre Dame, Baylor and Ohio State managed only 61, 61 and 63 points against the improving Huskies' defense. In their last 7 games, UConn has held opponents to an average of 52.2 points per game. As important as offense is for UConn, it is their defense which wins games and grinds opponents down. If you can't score more than 65 points against UConn, you will lose. 8-)
