Here is my UConn/Ohio State Game Preview!!!

Last night I went to The Funny Bone Comedy Club and the headliner was hysterical. Steve Trevino was just amazing. His routine is a full hour of full belly laughs! Check him out if you can.

Here is his nationwide schedule. You won't regret seeing him.

He is not always one of my favorite writers, but Phil Mushnick of the NY Post nailed it with this piece. Maybe he reads my blog?

Well, Tennessee fans finally got something to be happy about. Their Lady Vols defeated Stanford 59-51 at home Sunday. Can Tennessee go from having no votes to making it back in the Top 25 after one win over a top ten team?

They shouldn't, but you can bet the voters are looking for a way to put them back in there. So we shall see.

Stanford has played a pretty bad schedule this year to date. They beat a ranked Texas team in the second game of the season, and lost to the next best team on their schedule in unranked Gonzaga. Other than that, it was cream puff city for the Cardinal. A diet of Cal Poly, Purdue, CSU Northridge, Northeastern, Wichita State, CSU Bakersfield, and UC Davis. So, Tennessee wining this game at home was no surprise.

I can tell you that in watching this game, the only reason Tennessee won was that Stanford was that bad. It was a terrible game between two awful offenses. Ok, I'll give the Tennessee defense some credit. But the Tennessee offense was the same ole same ole.

They only had 8 assists on their 22 baskets for the game, scoring most of their points on turnovers. Stanford had 18. Now, Stanford was even worse, with only 6 assists on their 22 baskets. Stanford is usually a better offensive team than that.

Tennessee shot 38% for the game and Stanford 35%. Terrible.

Time will tell for Tennessee if they can parlay this win into continued success. They have two easy games next with Troy and UNC Willingham on the docket. Then they play Kentucky at home on
New Years day. We will know more about the Lady Vols after that contest.

The UConn vs Ohio State game will feature two of college basketball's best pure shooters, Katie Lou Samuelson and Kelsey Mitchell. Mitchell has played 12 games and averages 32.9 minutes per game. KLS has played 9 games and averages 32.3 per game. That is pretty much where the similarities end. ;)

Kelsey is a 5'8" guard who has taken 198 shots and scored 272 points. Her three point % is 38.2% on 102 attempts. Samuelson is a 6'3" wing who has taken only 128 shots, with 61 coming from the three point arc. Her 47.5% success rate from three is almost 10% better than Mitchell. Inside the arc, KLS is hitting 49.3% of her shots versus 55.2% for Mitchell. Both are hitting 83% of their free throws, although Mitchell has been to the line 59 times vs 30 for Katie Lou. Samuelson has more rebounds, 39 to 30, but fewer assists (27 to 44) and fewer turnovers (21 to 36). She does not handle the ball as much as Mitchell.

The quality of competition has also been very different. Ohio State and Mitchell have feasted on powerhouses Alabama State, Canisius, Brooklyn and Cincinnati. OSU scored 400 points in those four games, an even average of 100 per game. In their three toughest games vs Baylor, South Carolina and Miami, the Buckeyes lost all three and scored an average of 79 points per game. Against Baylor, Notre Dame and Texas, UConn held opponents 58.6 pts per game, while scoring 72, 72 and 72 points.

This game may come down to UConn defense holding the Ohio State offense in check, while scoring their usual 72 points. 8-)

Go Huskies..!!
