Here is my UConn/Oklahoma Pre Game Report.
I just got my tickets for the game!!!! Sec 14, row L, seats 15. Come say hello!!!

So, in an earlier blog I complained about someone saying that UConn freshmen might wonder about being at a school where they would get playing time like the freshman at Texas A&M Carter, who had a huge game the other night.
I received an email from a regular reader of my blog wondering why I gave that poster a hard time. He said being a parent of a scholarship athlete he is sure that freshmen do have those kinds of thoughts.
He made a very good point, so perhaps I was a little quick to criticize and a little harsh. My bad!!

Lots of top 25 action on Sunday. Just a few comments -
So, when is an 11 point loss like a win? When a team is a HUGE underdog and comes that close to the big favorite. No. 13 Ohio State had to battle to beat now 7-5 Cincinnati 87-76. It took one big quarter to push the Buckeyes past the Bearcats. Cincinnati played OSU pretty much even in quarters 1,2 and 4 but were outscored 31-19 in the 3rd quarter. The big difference was the 19-9 turnover advantage for Ohio State. Good job by Jamelle Elliott and her players.
The two prior UConn opponents No. 2 Notre Dame and DePaul played each other Sunday and the Irish won over the Blue Demons 91-82. Jessica Shepard scored a career high 39 points. The Nebraska transfer, who inexplicably was granted her transfer waiver to become eligible this season, was 17-22 from the field, grabbed 11 rebounds and had 3 blocks. A real dominating performance against a small DePaul team. Where would Notre Dame be without the kindness of the NCAA?
No. 4 South Carolina hammed Savannah State 99-38, but the final score or the nice game by A'ja Wilson was not the story. Before the game SC announced that senior guard Bianca Cuevas-Moore would miss this season. She has been rehabbing from an ACL injury and had a relapse bad enough to take a redshirt for this season. On top of that graduate transfer Linsdey Spann missed her fourth straight game with a knee injury. No word on her return. AND they lost senior guard Doniyah Cliney to a foot injury in the first half although word is she is fine and could have returned. Right now they are down to 9 players and in the physical SEC, that could be a problem down the road.

By David in Naples!!!!!
One of the silliest ongoing arguments in women’s college basketball is the debate over player selection for the Olympic team. Most recently, the issue resurfaced with the stupid suggestion of “term limits.” Play two Olympics and that player is done. Another name for this dumb suggestion is the “lower the number of UConn players rule.”
Remember when Candace Parker failed to make the 2016 Olympic Team. How unfair.. !! USA will lose..!! Geno was behind it..!! Total moose droppings. It doesn’t matter if USA leaves off a player or 2 who might be good enough. How did the team do in 2016? Consider:
1. Record 8-0 and Gold Medal..!
2. Average points per game = 102 per game
3. Beat Spain in the final by 101-72
4. Average margin of victory = 37 points per game
Does anyone think Parker being left home mattered? USA could send a 2nd dozen players and probably win silver..! Here is the USA record going back three Olympics.
2012 Olympics = 8-0. Avg margin of victory = 35 pts
2008 Olympics = 8-0. Avg margin of victory = 37 pts
2004 Olympics = 8-0. Avg margin of victory = 24 pts
Let the Olympic Selection group do their thing and relax. The Gold is a given..!
Go Huskies..!!
