Looks like my granddaughter Mya had a great day!!

What a great night for Kia. Outside of the two crazy air balls to start the each half, she was just perfect!! And the crowd showed their love for Kia. It was great to see, and the post game interview with Nurse was fabulous. I'll try to find it and add it to the blog later.
Katie Lou was amazing from the outside hitting eight of nine three point shots and finishing with 33. Kia hit 4-6 and ended up with 24. Just a great game for everyone on the team.
I'll be putting together a post game report soon.
I found this "transcript" of the Geno show that followed the game Friday night in case you didn't watch it.
"Injuries have prevented team from gelling, in some respects. Not having Lou was significant, not having Gabby is also difficult. Kia misses shots in practice, makes everything in games."
"This team needs more coaching on mental aspect than basketball issues. Has too many lapses during games"
"Azura is great three point shooter, don't know where that went. Makes them all in practice. Starting to embrace pressure and expectations. Not a lot of players in the country that have her upside"

"Coaches watch the players in practice and believe what we see is what we'll get from you in games. Do you set screens, cut hard, and so on? Who do we trust? You have to earn trust. The team can't function unless it's based on trust. If you don't believe in your teammates you won't play as hard. Depends on freshmen on how long it takes to earn trust - average freshman can't earn trust, that's normal. Some walk in and earn it in 5 minutes."
"Megan has tremendous upside. Megan sees herself as shooter, scorer s now she's being asked to do more. She knows she has to do more to play."
I'm sure there was more, but I hope this gives you a little more insight in how Geno thinks and runs the program.

I like Tennessee's Jamie Nared. I really do. But the All-American talk is just over the top. Yes, she has nice scoring and rebounding numbers. You have to take a closer look to put it in perspective.
Compare these two players.
Player 1 - 17.9 PPG, 2.9 APG, 41.4% FG, 31.0% 3FG, 21.3% of the teams shots.
Player 2 - 17.4 PPG, 3.8 APG, 42.3% FG, 33.3% 3FG, 21.5% of the teams shots.
Not much difference here. Player 1 is Nared. Player 2 is the much maligned Diamond Deshields last year. DDD was called a ball hog, but Nared is a senior leader? Either she is taking bad shots or is just not a good shooter.
It's too bad Nared has to play for such a lousy coach in Holly Warlick. She will have to wait until hopefully making the pros to really improve her game.

By David in Naples!!!!!
Some UConn games are over at the half. This was one of those games. Duquesne had 22 points, Katie Lou had 21..!! Kia was on fire in front of the homecoming fans. After throwing her first shot almost over the backboard, Nurse settled down & is 4-5 with 12 pts.
Add in 11 points from the confident Napheesa and 8 from headache free Gabby and you have a typical UConn rout. The defense was spectacular. The Dukes were 1-10 from three range and shot 22% overall. The Huskies created 10 turnovers and grabbed 18 defensive rebounds. Those 10 turnovers were turned into 17 points.
Great crowd for Kia Nurse’s homecoming and great play by the Huskies in the first half.
Go Huskies..!!
