We had one upset in the top twenty-five as No. 16 Louisville lost to unranked Western Kentucky 71-69. Kayla Smith hit the winning shot with 34 seconds left. The Lady Toppers sealed the deal with an additional free throw. Louisville lost for the second time in two games this season. They dropped from 8 to 16 after losing to Cal last week. They will barely stay in the top 25 after this one.

No. 3 Notre Dame beat South Dakota State 75-64 in a fairly close game. They struggle with SDS in the first half, eking out a 34-31 lead. The Irish used excellent defense to win this one according to McGraw. That may be true, but South Dakota State is not exactly an offensive juggernaut.
Notre Dame was led by terrific sophomore, 6'3" Briana Turner with 20 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks. Fifth year senior Madison Cable had another excellent game scoring 16 points, making 2-3 three pointers. Lindsay Allen did have 5 assists, but she only shot 1-7 from the field.
The bench added 19 points for Notre Dame led by Reimer, who is now coming off the bench. That could change against bigger teams. It's clear to me that they are not as explosive as last year. Losing Loyd has really impacted their offense and playing the two Mabreys, Huffman, Cable make them much less athletic as in years past. They are still better than anyone not NAMED UConn based on having Turner and Coach McGraw.

Another good night for the AAC.
SMU played a tough game against No. 18 Arizona State, losing by only seven, 64-57. Believe me, that is progress for SMU.
Cincinnati beat Bowling Green, 54-51. It's always a good day when Jamelle Elliott's team wins a game. They are 3-0 for the first time in 4 years. They play Baylor next in the Bahamas in the Junkanoo Jam. Not a bad place to visit. But I'm afraid it could get ugly for the Bearcats.

A little off topic but congrats to Bob Diaco and the UConn Huskies football team on their HUGE win against previously undefeated and 13th ranked Houston Cougars 20-17. This win makes them bowl eligible no matter what they do next week and it's great to see all the hard work by the staff and players finally pay off with a big win. I'm hoping for the Del Ray Bowl so I can visit my son and watch UConn football!
