As I thought, it was a pretty disjointed game for UConn. Yes, they won 83-61 but they were down 17-7 early with Houston hitting everything in sight. And they were down 23-22 after one quarter. But UConn held Houston to seven points in the second quarter and the route was on. It was a wonderful senior day except for Katie Lou's back spasms. She might miss Monday's final regular season game against South Florida. I'm sure the 3 hour flight would not help her back. But she is a tough kid. We will find out Monday.
Katie Lou was solid in this game before getting injured. In her 17 minutes she had 11 points on her way to another 20+ point game before diving for a loose ball and colliding with a Houston player. Her back immediately went into spasms. She did try to play in the second half for a few minutes but it just wasn't easing up. Hopefully she will recover quickly.
Napheesa had a game that every senior dreams on having her last home game on senior day. She scored 29 points on 10-14 shooting. After missing her first two foul shots she was 9-9 from the free throw line. She also added 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and a block. She 200 smiles.
As good as Collier was, Crystal Dangerfield was the star in this game. She had 19 points on several acrobatic shots. And she added 8 assists and 3 steals. But it was the timing of her baskets, when UConn was struggling to find their offense, that made her so valuable in this game.
They retired Rebecca Lobo's number 50 at halftime, the first UConn player to get that honor and she really really really deserved it. Geno was truly emotional about this. He reminded her that at the HOF induction, she said that Geno was the reason she was there. Geno returned the favor and told her SHE was the reason he was there. It was a wonderful moment for them and for all the UConn fans in attendance and watching at home.

Hopefully you all saw the senior day ceremonies, Lobo's half time number retirement ceremony and the entire game. But if not, I have plenty of videos for you!!!

Great game for the Huskies, despite the teeth gnashing Over Yonder. Here are 5 reasons why:
1. Lou only played 17 minutes, but will be fine. (Back spasm) UConn responded by winning the 2nd half 43-31.
2. The bench had to step up. 45 minutes, 10 rebounds, 5 points, 4 assists and 2 blocks. Good tough minutes..!
3. Senior Day emotion? Not Napheesa. 10-12 from inside the arc & 9-11 from the charity stripe. Machine like...
4. Houston made 5 of their first 8 threes, then the last two. That’s 7-10 and 21 points. In between they went 4-25 and 12 points. Relax....
5. Down 17-7 in the 1st period, UConn responds w/ confidence and scores 76 points. Pheesa scores 29 pts & Houston gets 1 rebound in the 4th quarter..!! Tired much..!!
Go Huskies..!!
