My wonderful and talented cousin Ted Fink has a songwriter competition for one of his songs. He sent out the instrumental and we were supposed to send in lyrics. The song is called Riffin’.
Riffin’ is when you just make up music without lyrics for example on a guitar.
I made it to the final four!!! Now it’s time for the public to vote.

That game was a lot of fun to watch, no? UConn played great without Katie Lou in beating ECU 92-65. Lots of positives in this game.
We got to see the best player in the country show why she is the best player in the country.
We got to see the emergence of a dominant defensive player.
We got to see a player possibly pushing that freshman wall to the southern border.
We got to see the possibilities available when Katie Lou comes back in the NCAA Tournament.
But as usual, we had to supply some fodder for the "UConn is doomed" crowd and let ECU stay in the game for too long. Hot shooting by ECU and some weak defense by UConn allowed the Pirates to score 22 points in the first quarter and 39 for the half. In their last game they were 23-76 for 30.3% from the field, 1-16 on threes. In the first half they were 43% from the field and 30% on threes. A big difference. UConn shut them down in the second half and won going away.
Collier was just friggin' amazing. 37 points, 13 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals. She knew she had to play at this level with Samuelson out. Look for two more games of her leading the way.
Nelson-Ododa was just amazing in this game as well. She played 36 minutes, by far the most of her young career. She only scored 6 points, but her work on the boards and defending the post were as important as anything else that happened in this game. 17 rebounds (a new AAC tourney record) and 5 blocks and countless changed shots. I can't wait to see some Geno quotes.
UConn is back in a little cold spell from three point land. They were only 4-17 from long range. But they did shoot 53% from the field. I thought overall they looked better offensively than they did against South Florida in their previous game.
Speaking of South Florida, UConn is playing them again in the semifinals of the tournament. It's so unusual not to play them in the finals! The Bulls handles Houston easily, winning 72-55. I'm sure that Jose has his team feeling confident after only losing by 10 points 57-47 the last time they met. They held UConn to 63 points in the first game they played this season, UConn winning 63-46. The question will be, can UConn score more points in this game. It's clear that UConn's defense can keep South Florida under 50 points. I would expect that again. UConn, even with Samuelson, only scored 63 and 57 points against the Bulls. Without her? We shall see.
This game will be another struggle, but I think UConn will win going away by 15+ points.

Arkansas beat No. 15 Texas A&M 58-51, but is that really an upset with their best player, Chennedy Carter, out with an injury hand. They are the first 10 seed to get to the conference finals. Tough game for them against Mississippi State in the finals.
I waited for the Oregon/UCLA game to finish. It went into overtime with both team playing some terrific basketball. This game was a pleasure to watch. Both teams left it all out on the court. Oregon pulled it out but I thought it was a little tainted. The UCLA coach Cory Close was called for a technical in the OT and it ended up a four point swing. Now, I'm not saying a technical shouldn't have been called, but in that situation, the ref could have just kept running past her and let it go. Unfortunate for the UCLA players, who deserved better. The final was 88-83. Look out for UCLA in the NCAA tournament. They will do some damage.

East Carolina’s scoring by quarter was 22, 17, 11 and 15. Notice the decline in scoring. The Pirates took Geno’s bait and tried to run with the Huskies. The problem is the Huskies don’t get tired. UConn’s scoring by quarter was 24, 22, 21 and 25. By the 2nd half, the Pirates walked the plank and were outscored 46-26.
Megan Walker led the team in minutes played w/ 39. She had a double-double with 14 pts & 10 rebounds. Napheesa also had a double-double w/ 37 pts and 13 boards. Pheesa played 35 minutes. Best of all, Olivia contributed 17 rebounds, 6 points and 5 blocked shots in 36 minutes.
Next up is a rematch w/ USF tomorrow at 4pm.
Go Huskies..!!
Notre Dame, L’ville and UConn all won today. An interesting comparison of the three best guards in the country shows their respective Shot-to-Assist stat.
Crystal - 13 shots, 6 assists
Asia Durr - 20 shots, 2 assists
Arike O. - 18 shots, 4 assists
Still would take Dangerfield any day over Durr or Ogunbowale.
