GO UCONN!!!!!

**************************************************

19 years ago today I had my last cigarette. I had quit several times over the 31 years I smoked and none of them stuck.

I walked outside my house, had a cigarette and then threw the rest of the pack in the garbage. I was determined to make it happen this time! I had tried several methods, but this time it was cold turkey and mind over matter. Every urge was met with a mantra - "who is stronger, me or the cigarette".

Each urge got further and further between and now it's 19 years later and I am still going strong. I haven't had an urge, a queue, a desire. Nothing, in many many years.

This is always a special anniversary to me. A great accomplishment and hopefully pink lungs as a result!

Full game where UConn committ KK Arnold scores 26 points on 10-18 FG, 2-6 3-PT, 4-5 FT, 9 rebounds, 12 assists, 6 steals. KK #1 in black.

Quite the stats stuffer!!!

UConn assistant coach Morgan Valley on hand to watch Madison Booker on Tuesday (12/14). Booker had 16 points and 5 rebounds.

Straight from the Dog

No. 1 South Carolina used first half domination and never let No. 15 Duke get closer than 7 points in the final quarter before beating the Blue Devils 55-46. South Carolina has been missing their point guard Destanni Henderson for 3 games and in those games they have scored 65, 66 and 55 points, their lowest scoring totals since the first game when they scored 66 points against NC State. But the Gamecocks have been playing the best defense of any team this season and it's been carrying them on to victories. If they don't get Henderson back soon, eventually it will bite them in the but and lose a game. As long as they have Boston, my current pick for National POY awards, they have a great chance of going undefeated. She has been playing that well. In this game she score 19 points and had 15 rebounds. Oh yeah, and 4 more blocks. They next take on No. 3 Stanford on December 21st.

Gotta hand it to Kim Mulkey. She has always kept her foot on the pedal when her team is blowing out an opponent. I believe I have written several times about how her fourth quarter scoring is as much as the other quarters against cupcakes. This time the victim was the Alcorn State Lady Braves. LSU scored 28 points in the fourth quarter, more than any other quarter in beating up the Lady Braves, 100-36. In fact, yes, I'm sure you can feel it coming......Alcorn State is the latest recipient of the UGGY!!!

Here is the "tale of the tape".

Alcorn State only scored 36 points. But based on the other numbers, they were fortunate to get that many.

They shot 13-50 from the field for 26%. One player was 5-8, so the rest of the team shot 19%.

They also shot 6-25 on threes for 24%. That same player was 3-6, so the rest of the team shot 15.7%.

They shot 4-8 on free throws. 50%

They had a sparkling 26 turnovers. And were outrebounded 46-21.

Oh yeah, they earned it! Congrats to the Lady Braves. So brave but so overmatched.

Ok.....some more idiocy from Volnation.com. Some of my friends have remarked that I should stop going over there and getting myself upset, all worked up. But I really feel that like most lies and misinformation, they dissipate in the light of day. And I am bringing these to light.

Well, this series of posts are a doozy. They are based on a tweet by some strange person who uses the name Taraji P Henchman. She tweeted "they are treating Paige like a 98 Honda Civic?  Huh? What does that even mean. You have to work hard to even come up with what she meant by that. It was in response to the Courant writer posting about Bueckers' surgery.  It mentions that the meniscus tear was previously unannounced/undisclosed.

Oh boy, that is all they needed to hear. Unannounced and undisclosed? Let's see how they twisted this one.

So you mean to tell me she’s been playing on a bad knee all this time? Wonder where we have heard that’s a bad idea before….

Wow. How the hell did this poster figure that she was playing on a bad knee? Dumb. And where did we hear this before? From Evina Westbrook, who was unhappy with the treatment she received for her bad knee at Tennessee.

He slays me. Tried to throw our program under the bus whilst he’s doing the same thing. Not shocking. Geno hates Tennessee.

Whilst? Just shut up...lol.

Wow, that environment sounds a little... toxic?

Uh....no.

Then someone with a brain (not a Tennessee fan) posted this.

From the Hartford Courant article.

"The operation repaired the anterior tibial plateau fracture and a previously unannounced lateral meniscus tear that Bueckers sustained during UConn’s win against Notre Dame on Dec. 5."

The fracture and the tear happened at the same time.

Exactly!

So Paige had surgery and must rehab before she can play. What games are upcoming compared to the 8 week prediction for being healthy?

Here is the immediate schedule and predicted start times for the tournament.

* DePaul at home (Gampel) 2/11
* Away against Marquette 2/13.

* 2/20 Georgetown XL (about 10 weeks from surgery)

* 2/25 Saint John`s XL

* 2/27 Providence Gampel (Senior Day)

I think the first Big East Tournament game is Saturday March 5. (about 12 weeks)

First round of NCAA Tournament probably starts around March 18. (about 14 weeks)

Let's hope Paige and the other walking wounded are healthy and ready for the March Madness TOurnament..!!

Go Huskies..!!

  1. This might be a stupid question, but ... did Paige already play in too many games to redshirt this season?
I expect she will want to come back, even if it's in March. But I also remember Sue Bird getting injured (ACL?) fairly early in her freshman year - but I think it was JUST past the point where she could have redshirted. So maybe that's the same for Paige. I just would like to know.

  2. According to the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance, Scott Young, “the NCAA has two requirements for a medical redshirt; the injury must have occurred in the first half of the season, and the athlete must have competed in less than 30 percent of the season. -- So, she would qualify if all decide that is the best for her.
