More Paige Postgame Interview
We had company for dinner Friday night so I won't be putting together my post game thoughts. I haven't had a chance to watch the game yet, so if you haven't watched it, there are a couple of articles abouth the game.
I would suggest you watch the Geno post game interview video. Lots of intertesting thoughts from Geno. But if you can't watch it, here are a few quotes.
Geno - “She looked more like an assassin from Croatia. Her game is to get in the lane and create, play defense. Hit her hand on a couple passes. … But every time you foul, you’re putting yourself and our team in jeopardy. And now you gotta come to the bench and now that’s one less player that we have available. We need Nika’s minutes. We don’t need Paige playing 40 minutes so that would help a big deal.”
Geno - “Dorka lived her life today. Today Dorka was exactly what we needed her to be. And again, that needs to be accentuated a little bit going forward but I like where she is right now. She’s big-body, she can bang around in there. She plays good defense for the most part and she understands the game so it’s a big help.”
Edwards - “Personally, just going into this game, I just had a new mindset. Offensively, being that impact on the board, going back to my strengths and what I do best in the games. Just really wanted to bring out that energy today. We had previous games but this is really when we need to start working and start perfecting our craft individually for me it’s buckling down and just being an impact offensively and defensively.“The boards really motivate me to be that enforcer, be an impact, whatever my team needs from me.”
Geno - “We don’t make enough outside shots so everybody is playing us to put it on the floor and get it to the lane. We haven’t been good on offense the entire season yet. Maybe it will come. But right now, not good. Not good at all. I gotta go home and figure that out.”
Paige - “I just sorta try to think what I would do and the decision that I would make and the read that I would make and then try to make that same read defensively. It works sometimes. Doesn’t work sometimes but just sorta using that and my offensive IQ to help with my defense.
Geno - ”She was all over the court. She’s smart. She knows where the ball is going all the time. She’s already there. She’s not late. She commits dumb fouls like any other player does. But she’s gotta a bunch of things going for her. She’s so smart offensively that when she’s on defense, she knows exactly where they’re trying to do go with the ball.”

On Sunday, UConn will unveil a monument on Hillside Road to honor those with a connection to the school who have competed in the Olympics.

We are so lucky to be fans of a team with such a deep seeded tradition of great players. UConn does a great job honoring them in every way.

Straight from the Dog
No. 1 South Carolina took care of business against Kansas State, winning 65-44. With their starting point guard Destini Henderson out with an injury, the Gamecocks started super athletic forward junior Laeticia Amihere in her place. And boy did she come through. 11 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists along with 5 blocks. Aliyah Boston added another double double with 21 points and 17 rebounds. She also had 4 blocks. Kamila Cardoso had her best game for South Carolina with 11 points and 10 rebounds along with 4 blocks. The one really bad thing is the continuation of the poor foul shooting for SC. They were 13-27. More misses than makes.
However, did you notice the block theme? The Gamecocks had an amazing 16 blocks in this game. Crazy!!
They really are a sad group over there on Volnation.com. This is the latest crap coming from their orange mouths.
"Won’t be at all shocked if Fudd transfers. She and her parents aren’t liking the situation it seems. She’s too talented to ride the pine and Geno is backed into a corner because they made a huge deal about a freshman last season…acted like she walked on water even though she had room to grow. When players aren’t happy minor injuries tend to start keeping them out and then they are gone. Have started hearing her mom and dad are not happy with her playing time"
What a stupid rumor to try to pass off as what is happening. 6 games in and she is ready to leave? When was the last time a TOP player transfered from UConn? Never. And leave her bestie Paige.
It's just one of two things. Wishful thinking or trolling UConn fan.
Coming from the fanbase that called Geno a cheater because he bough Maya Moore's mom a house and set up het business, this is pretty tame, but still really dumb.

Not only intelligible but also inacurate.
"rae can knot down 3 and horston has a nice 3 if not force and kelly want dye to take shots around foul line kelly said dye jumper there is good kelly said that before last game and strplin has set nice picks for puckett, tess shot threes and wynn had a nice game"
Rae can shoot the three. But to say Horston has a nice 3, well, the stats don't back that up.
Freshman Season - 27-90 30%
Sophomore Season - 14-50 28%
And this year so far? 2-17 12%
If not force? The force is not with her.

OD
I watched all or substantial portions of:
• Georgia defeating Texas Tech
• NC State defeating Indiana
• Maryland defeating Miami
• Duke upsetting Iowa
• Louisville demolishing Michigan
• LSU upsetting Iowa State
• Notre Dame defeating Michigan State
It wasn’t until I looked at scores this morning that I realized that South Florida was upset by UT Arlington. (Ranked # 87 by Massey. Yikes!)
The good news is that there was a lot of interesting basketball on yesterday, the bad news is that there was a lot of interesting basketball on yesterday which meant it wasn’t spread out over the previous week (Monday had a noncompetitive South Carolina game, and Tuesday had an even less competitive Baylor game).
The other bad news is with that much basketball, the games blurred together. As I watched each game, something would happen that seem worthy of writing about, but as I stand here this morning my brain is full of mush. (I know, I know, how is that different than other times?)
A couple of quick takeaways:
Louisville’s defense is better than I had realized. They held Michigan to 15 first-half points. I also think that extremely intense defense can be very exhausting, so Michigan actually outscored Louisville in the second half, but players are human and when you’re up by 24 points, it’s virtually impossible to maintain that level of intensity.
Duke is very impressive. It wasn’t easy to tell from the prior six games, only two of which were better than triple digit rankings, but they were in command over Iowa. It is fair to note that Iowa has had a long layoff due to Covid, and that undoubtedly contributed but it doesn’t take away from the very impressive performance. Caitlin Clark was held to four points, I believe, in the first half, but ended up with 22 points.
I was initially thinking that moving Duke into the top 25 was going to be problematic. While several top 25 lost, (Iowa State, Iowa, Michigan, Indiana) those teams were ranked 6, 9, 12, and 14. All those teams will move down but none will be moving out of the top 25. However, while it wasn’t yesterday, both FGCU and Oregon state lost, so that should provide an opening for Duke to move into the top 25.
Speaking of top 25, Nebraska is 8-0 and ranked number 11 in Massey, while not getting a single vote in the ratings. That should change.

Last season, UConn out-rebounded their opponents by 337 rebounds in 30 games. So about 11 extra boards per game. The Huskies total of 1,245 boards included 352 offensive rebounds. At their current pace, UConn would have only 188 o-boards in a 30 game season. Not good and something the coaching staff is addressing daily at practice. But that is not the only glaring weakness.
The Huskies have 58 turnovers in 4 games vs "only" 50 for opponents. Again, last season UConn had 111 fewer turnovers than their opposition. That is a trademark of UConn teams. Fewer mistakes with the ball & pressure opponents into miscues. Reportedly, something the coaches have been also working on in practice. So how did all the emphasis work out against Seton Hall..?

UConn finally used their height & physicality to dominate the boards, 51 to 30 over Seaton Hall. The turnover battle was closer, but also in the Huskies favor, 13-15. Edwards had 5 of UConn’s miscues, an unfortunate pattern this season.
Keep working on these issues..!
