In case you missed it, here is my UConn/Notre Dame post game report.

*********************************************************************************

Some great stuff from David in Naples.

1. Stewart played 77 of 80 possible minutes, including all 40 against DePaul.
2. Breanna scored 57 points on her way to back to back double-doubles. :)
3. Stewart shot 20-28 or 71.4% from inside the 3 point arc and 2-8 from three range.
4. You can't stop Stewart, you can only foul her. She made 11-13 free throws or 85% ..!!
5. Stewart grabbed 22 rebounds and blocked 4 shots while dominating the lane.
6. She added 4 steals, 3 assists and 2 amazing tip ins to fill out her sheet.
7. Her two game average was 28.5 points & 11 rebounds per game.
And more.....

For all those Nervous Nellies who are worried about how close the DePaul & Notre Dame games were and how "poorly" UConn played. Here's the facts:

1. DePaul led for only 1:38, in the first half. Their biggest lead was 2 points.
2. Notre Dame had a 1 point lead for 46 seconds. That was in the first half.
3. UConn NEVER trailed in the 2nd half of either game and won by double digits both games.
Thanks David!!!

Sixteen top 25 teams playing Sunday. The big game is No. 2 South Carolina against No. 14 Duke in a rematch of the 51-50 South Carolina win game from last year.

*********************************************************************************

In a very competitive game, Asia Wilson led No. South Carolina to a 66-55 win over No. 14 Duke. Wilson scored a career high 28 points and pulled down 11 rebounds I a terrific effort. Let me just say that Wilson is a great player from the foul line in. She is a big kid and a handful in the paint. But she is NO Stewart as some proclaimed her to be. She has a weak handle and limited range. But what she does do, she does very well and deserves her AA status.

Alana Coates added 19 points on 7-9 shooting and their other AA Tiffany Mitchell scored 12 points. Between Wilson and Coates, they shot 17-28. The rest of the team was 7-29. Terrible shooting. Overall they shot 42% from the field and 2-10 on threes and 57% from the free throw line. More great SEC offense. They will need to do better.

In a big upset, Virginia Tech beat Tennessee on the Lady Vols court 57-43. At one point in the first half, Tennessee was up nine points. But after that it was all downhill for the Checkerboard folks.

I watched a lot of this game and wow....Tennessee was just awful. From top to bottom, every player struggled, especially in the second half.

Diamond Deshields scored 15 points in the first half and scoreless in the second half. She was 0-8 from the field and had 3 turnover while Tennessee was trying to stay in the game and eventually attempt to close the gap. Overall she was 6-18 from the field and 1-8 on three's.

Mercedes Russell had a decent game with 14 points and 15 rebounds. But the rest of the team was awful. In that regard, I am breaking out my "UGGY"  award for this one.

Outside of Russell and Deshields, the rest of the team shot 4-25 from the field for 16% and 0-11 on threes. The team shot 30% from the field and 1-19 on three's. This was UGLY.

The post game presser couldn't have given the Lady Vol fans much hope for the future. I believe it's clear that Coach Warlick is in over her head.

"We are fouling, then the next play down, we are fouling again. The same person. We have to get some kind of discipline in our game and in our heads. I don't quite understand it, but it is my job to figure it out."

"We gave up 21 points in the fourth quarter. A great basketball team does not do that. We are not living, we are dying by the three-point shot. We went 1-for-19. Come on, use your basketball sense. Get a two-point shot. We have to do something. "

"I thought, for the most part, that we had good looks. I'll have to go back and watch the film. A prime example is when Mercedes (Russell) gets a steal, she is shut out, and a guard makes a pass that falls into the fourth row. It's hard to believe, and that's kind of how this game and this season has gone, we have turned the ball over for no reason."

"I am not here just to motivate those kids, and they know it. Something has to start clicking for them, because I can go stand on my head, and they can figure out what they need to do. I thought in the first quarter we came out and got after it, but then after that we just kind of settled. I don't know the answer, or I would fix it."

"I don't know the answer or I would fix it". Wow....that says it all.

And now their eight game home stand is over and they hit the road playing Wichita State, No. 7 Oregon State and No. 16 Stanford. They need to find a way to fix it or it will be a quick 3 losses.

While it was a terrible game by Tennessee it was a great game for a rebuilding Virginia Tech program that lost 20 games. Dennis Wolff, father of former UConn player Nicole Wolff, is their coach and doing a great job. Congrats to Coach Wolff and the VT Hokies.
