Great game for The Huskies. I will be writing a full post game report as soon as I can. My little grandson, Logan, has to have a little surgery. He will be fine, but I'm going with my daughter to the doctor's office early in the morning and with the late Huskie game, I'm heading to bed early.
On Edit at 10:30 Monday morning - Logan is fine. His procedure went well and he is home with his mommy resting.

After a slow start, the polar opposite of the previous game, UConn pulled away with a 22-7 run. It was started by a tremendous defensive series where Stewart block 3 shots on one Duquesne possession. It was a play of historical proportions, one that we will see in highlights forever.....
UConn continued to extend the lead in the third quarter when Stewart added another historical play with a putback on a Williams miss. It was an unbelievably athletic play.....and it was an "and one" as well.
More to come in my Post Game Report.

I posted in the previous blog that thread about next years point guard where many of the players returning next year were discussed and dismissed.
It had over 80 replies and over 3700 views. I thought the timing after a great win was just bad timing of not just plain stupid.
So of course, someone had to start a brand new thread taking about "Next seasons GREAT unknown". They proceeded to once again trash the players. Giving up on some and just dismissing others.
Here is the beauty I will share with you - "Do the coaches have almost two years into working with Natalie already? Watching her now - I don't see there is enough to work with. Love to be wrong. Also seems to me from recent rotations that Kia is the second point guard - and that her play will be the standard for Crystal to exceed to become a starter. Saniya in three years hasn't gotten there."
I'll say it again. Butler only played 13.5 minutes and if you took that to a full time players minutes she would average a double double. Not bad for someone that doesn't have "enough to work with".
What is wrong with these people??

What a great finish in the Stanford/South Dakota State game. SDSU had a lead for most of the game but with 17 seconds left and a one point lead, South Dakota State only made one of two free throws. Stanfords Thompson made a driving layup and was fouled. It was a fantastic move to the basket. She made the free throw for a 66-65 Stanford lead. The Jackrabbits missed their last attempt and Stanford excaped with the win. WOW.

Florida State manhandled Texas A&M 74-56, who was without their best player, Courtney Williams. Williams and backup guard Shlonte Allen were suspended for a violation of undisclosed team rules. Gary Blair doesn't mess around, even if it costs them the season.
Florida State had a 21 point lead at the half and also after three quarters. A&M got as close as 15, but it wasn't to be.

Holy Moly, Maryland lost to Washington 74-65 behind Kelsey Plum, who had 32 points for the other Huskies. Maryland was held to eight third quarter points and that was the difference in the game.
Notre Dame's path to the final four just got easier, not that they need it to be.

After a close first quarter, Kentucky pulled away from Oklahoma, winning the game 79-58. It was a terrific effort from the Wildcats, with five players in double digit scoring. They held Oklahoma to 28% shooting from the field and from the three point line.
Washington and Kentucky will meet in the Sweet Sixteen. This should be a great game.

Notre Dame finished the game against Indiana Monday night like the No. 1 seed that they are Winning 87-70. Indiana closed to 56-54 in the third quarter and then Notre Dame just put the peddle to metal and zoomed away, taking an 80-60 lead in a blink of the eye.
The Irish showed their depth of scoring with four players in double digits led by Lindsay Allen, who showed that she is the second best point guard in the nation with 22 points on 10-13 shooting, handing out 7 assists and 5 steals.

From David in Naples
Breanna Stewart has played 907 minutes heading into tonight's game against Duquesne. If you add all the positive things she does on the court like score points, grab rebounds and block shots, you get a total of 1,174 positives. That includes 612 points, 262 rebounds, 129 assists, 110 blocks and 61 steals. She is #1 on the team in three of those statistics (points, rebounds & blocks), #2 in assists and #3 in steals. There are several ways to evaluate these positive contributions.
1. In 33 games in which she averaged only 28.3 minutes, Stewie averaged 34.6 positive contributions per game.
2. Every minute she is on the court, Breanna contributes 1.29 positive plays.
3. Stewie will do something positive (score, rebound, etc...) every 46 seconds when she is in the game.
4. Stewie is amazing.
This analysis doesn't even capture the plays that don't show up in the box score, like taking charges, intimidating shooters, setting screens, boxing out on rebounds, etc... Probably the best measure of Stewie's contribution is the way her stats get better in the biggest games. Stewie being Stewie.
