A Daily look at scores from yesterday, a list of top performers in those games and of course a little opinion.
Tennessee at Rutgers, a Brick onslaught |
This has been a quiet time for WCBB. Yesterday I said that the Lady Vols at the Scarlett Knights would be the best game of the week. Well, we all make mistakes. I also thought that Rutgers would win. 0-2.
With all the bricks shot by these two teams, they could have built a few houses. Bad shots, bad passes, bad decisions. Just bad.
Rutgers came in to the game with a reputation of a great transition game. The only transition I saw was from bad to worse. This certainly wasn't the team I saw play great against North Carolina before losing in OT.
Tennessee did show a semblance of an offense in the second half. Somewhat. So, how bad was it? Here are a few team stats.
Tennessee was 16-69 from the field, a sparkling 27.5%. And 1-10 on three pointers. 10%.
Rutgers was 19-61 from the field, an even better 31.1%. And 2-5 on three pointers. 20%.
Tennessee had 7 assists and 13 turnovers.
Rutgers had 10 assists and 15 turnovers.
Tennessee won this game like they always win games, with overwhelming rebounding and tough defense. One thing different in Warlick's team versus Pat's teams is the use of the zone. Holly impliments the zone often with very good results.
There were some ugly individual performances by both teams as well.
Tennessee's Graves, Carter, Moore, Middleton and Nared went 0-19 from the field. That's half the team that saw action in this game.
Rutger's Tyler Scaife shot 9-17, the rest of the starters shot 9-38.
One positive note for Tennessee, Harrison was excellent with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Her shot was off but she is still quicker than most centers and can get to the basket for a hoop for foul shots.
I hope these two teams have plans the second weekend of the NCAA's. They will have the available time.
