A Daily look at scores from yesterday, a list of top performers in those games and of course a little opinion.
First a shout out to my old HS (yes we are old) classmate and friend Richard, who is recovering from some health issues. I hope Sunday's game lifted your spirits!!

It's been a long weekend, so I am combining an abbreviated UCLA post game report with my game links. Hey, 2 for the price of 1!!!!!
Great game by the Huskies Sunday. It looked for a little while it would be "slow start" redo when UConn struggled to hit a basket. They had only 4 points in the first 5 minutes. Good shots but lots of misses. It was 24-18 with 7 minutes left in the first half when UConn went on one of their patented runs, this time a 16-2 sprint. With 27 seconds left, UConn fell asleep on defense for 2 possessions and gave up a quick 5 points to finish the half with a 40-25 lead.
It wasn't the best half they have played this year so far, but a lot of credit goes to the UCLA defense. They are quick and energetic and while the game was still close, they were able to sustain that. But not for long once the game started to get away from them early in the 2nd half. UConn, as it does against most teams, just wore out a very game Bruin team.
Just a few observations -
Jefferson hit a three. YAY!!!!!! Yes, she missed 3 others, but UConn needs her to take them and occasionally make them. It's good she still has confidence.
Speaking of confidence, it was great to see Chong make 2-3 three point shots. Defensively she was all over the court. And she did a fine job running the offense. She did get lost on defense once in a while but I thought this was one of her better games this season.
KML had a quiet night on the scoring end. A couple of threes and she only took 6 shots, all three's. It was clear early that the inside would be open and she made some nifty passes to get her four assists.
Stewart with back to back 20+ point games. She was strong in the post, and just had a terrific overall game with 5 rebounds, 5 blocks and 3 steals. POY showed up again tonight.
While UConn was struggling out of the gate, Nurse was the player that was ready to go from the onset. She scored early and then settled into her role of playmaker and defender. 6 assists and 1 TO. Gotta love it.
Tuck was aggressive but not successful early, but she was solid for most of the game. Tough in the post and shooting better form the outside, UConn is lucky to have her.
Folks were worried at the beginning of the season about post play, but I have to say that today UConn shined in that regard.
Stokes was dominant in only 16 minutes with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 4 block with countless altered shots. 5-5 from the field, I thought she show a new found aggressiveness on the offensive end. I really hope it continues. Sometimes all it takes is one game.
Williams was just awesome again. She is playing such good basketball. Her pass out of the double team in the post to a cutting Stokes was such a mature play. 12 points and 7 rebounds in 16 minutes? I'm loving just thinking of 4 years of her and Nurse together.
I loved the matching pearls that Chris and Shea were wearing. Very nice.
I suppose one could nit pick and find things to complain about. And it's easy to do when a team has the normal good and bad that happens in a typical game. I like to focus on the bigger picture and this game was another good building block on the way to a championship.
