A Daily look at scores from yesterday, a list of top performers in those games and of course a little opinion.
No games until Friday. But that won't stop me from posting. I'll just babble on for 3 days. I'm sure I will think of a few things. I won't have to spend a few hours cutting and pasting.

I was "discussing" South Carolina and UConn with a South Carolina fan and one of his arguments on which team was better was based in their stats at this point in time.
(nationally ranked out of 343 teams)
Scoring D : South Carolina: 3rd,CT: 24th
FG % D: South Carolina: 10th, UConn: 15th
3-PT FG % D: South Carolina: 32nd, UConn: 201st

At first glance the South Carolina fan has a point. South Carolina leads in 9 of those categories, and UConn only 3. South Carolina has to be so much better than the Huskies. Right? Well, not so fact, my Cocky friend. You forgot a few things.
Scoring Offense: UConn: 1st, South Carolina: 20th
Field Goal Percentage: UConn: 1st, South Carolina: 7th
Field Goal Percentage: UConn: 1st, South Carolina: 7th
Free Throw Percentage: UConn: 68th, South Carolina: 245th
3 pt made per game: UConn: 6th, South Carolina: 160th
3 pt percentage: UConn: 8th, South Carolina: 55th
So, look what we have here. Five categories left off the list. And all with UConn leading in those categories. Now we have 9 for South Carolina, and 8 for UConn. But does that tell you the whole story? No, only part of it.
UConn has an average ranking in those categories of 19.35. South Carolina? 38.
And speaking of spreads between the teams, my friend Massey has it as a 19 point spread with the game at UConn and Sagerin has it as 13 with their predictor and home court add 3-4.
Here is the last piece of the puzzle, SOS. Since UConn and South Carolina don't have any opponents that are the same, only SOS can be used to compare how the stats were accumulated.
Sagerin has UConn at 3. South Carolina is 137.
Realtime RPI has UConn at 9. South Carolina is 87.
UConn has played 3 teams with an RPI over 100. South Carolina has played 7.
To me, this makes comparing the stats silly, I know, silly is pretty nasty of me. But if these two teams switched schedules, I'm pretty sure UConn's numbers would be better and South Carolina's would be worse.

I guess if both teams keep winning until they meet, the argument can be settled on the court. I'm really looking forward to it.
