Doggy's Doghouse 2/26/19

After cutting my thumb on Saturday, I was concerned about bowling Tuesday night. But it healed enough for me to give it a go. I certainly had second thoughts after a 154 game to start and my team lost the game by seven pins. But I found the range the second game and shot a season high 249 and we won by 21 pins. we were down in the last game and I needed three strikes in the last frame for my team to win by one pin. It was a great feeling to come through for the guys and I shot a nice 205 the last game.

Now, I'm tired and I won't be watching the UConn game until Wednesday sometime. So not much info about the game from me! But I'll get you as many links as I can. I know UConn won the 84-47 and Collier had 32 points. GO HUSKIES!!!

No. 20 Iowa State won a close one with unranked Texas Tech 64-62. They needed a huge fourth quarter to pull it off, outscoring the Red Raiders 29-17. Iowa State scored the last seven points in the game over 1:52. Crazy.

This would have been a really bad loss for the Cyclones, hurting their NCAA tournament seeding.

Part I

In a perfect basketball world, "balance" would be each starters scoring the same number of points. UConn isn't perfect, but they do have fairly balanced scoring. Pheesa and Lou average 19.6 and 19.2 points per game. Crystal and Megan are just behind them at 13.4 and 12.3 pts per game. Then, Christyn rounds out the starting five at 10.8 per game. Each of the five averages double figures & has led the team in scoring in a game. Each is capable of dropping 25-30 points on a given night. How do you defense a team with five scorers? :D

Balance also comes from HOW a team scores, not just who scores. UConn has scored 2,263 points so far in 27 games. Free throws have accounted for 329 of those points (15%). With 222 threes, the Huskies have scored 666 points outside the arc. That is 29.4%. The remaining 1,258 points have come from traditional baskets (55.5%). Pack the inside with defenders and UConn can score from outside. In fact, the Huskies' four starters other than Pheesa have 69, 60, 36 and 33 threes. Pheesa has only 8 threes, but has scored 210 baskets inside.

Tonight's game with Wichita should be another lesson in balanced scoring from all over the court.

Go Huskies..!!

Part II

UConn’s balanced scoring against Wichita was as follows:

Free throws = 14 points
Three pointers = 30 points ( 10-23)
Field goals = 40 points

The Huskies shot 78% from the Free Throw line, 44% front three and 69% from within the arc. Doesn’t get any more balanced than that..!!

Go Huskies..!!
