Actually, sign, sealed and delivered!!!

Saylor Poffenbarger coming to Storrs!!!

Eligible 2nd Semester. 5 years eligibility.

10 days quarantine and then she can practice with the team and play.

This could be a big missing piece on this team. A 6'2" guard who is deadly from the 3 point line.

Yes, I'm using this picture again. Look at the young lady to the left. That is 6'5" Amari DeBerry, the last of the incoming 2021 recruits and the only post player.

Doesn't she look happy in her UConn sweatshirt?

I've watched a lot of DeBerry video and once you will see why everyone should be excited about her coming to UConn. She just dominates at the HS level, and eventually will do the same at UConn.

I have no idea why she dropped from No.2 in the ESPN rankings, but I promise you she is not the No. 15 ranked player in her class that they have her at now. Prospects Nation and ASGR has her at No. 3. Blue Star has her at No. 4. Any way you look at it, she is a hell of a player.

When you see her in action, I'm sure you will see the similarities in build and game to Olivia Nelson-Ododa.

Here she discusses her commitment to UConn

I love this video. In one minutes it shows her hitting a three pointer, four left handed finishes at the basket, a couple of turnaround jumpers, a nice kick-out pass to an open shooter, two steals, a nice pass to a cutter, and a blocked shot. Pretty much her entire repertoire.

Ok, it's Covid. I'm sure you have 26 minutes to spare.

Currently, 7 games into the season, UConn is shooting 34.1% on their three-point tries. That comes out to 43 of 126. Interestingly, opponents have also made 43 threes, but on 182 attempts. That results in an anemic 23.6% accuracy rate. Obviously, the Huskies are better from outside the arc than their 7 opponents. But what about South Carolina and Stanford, the main competition for any team that wants to be National Champions?

South Carolina has only managed to play 9 games and so far they are 42-120 or 35.0%. They don't take many threes, only a little over 10 per game. Zia Cooke is their most prolific shooter, going 18-36, a terrific 50%. In fact, Aliyah Boston is the next best three-point shooter at 6-15 or 40% along with Desianni Henderson 8-20.

Stanford has played 10 games and their 3 point shooting is comparable to UConn's, in terms of accuracy. They have taken 233 threes and made 80. That is 34.3% accuracy. Obviously, Stanford has taken many more threes (23.3 per game) than the Huskies (18 per game). Stanford's big name players, Haley Jones & Fran Belibi are a combined 0-5 from deep. Hannah Jump (41.5% on 41 tries) and Anna Wilson (54% on 24 tries) are their best outside shooters.

UConn's three point shooting needs to improve. Only Paige (11-22) is above 36%. But at least four players have made 10 or more threes. Christyn also has 11 made threes, Anna & Evina have 10 each. Hitting threes opens up the lane for Liv, Aaliyah and Aubrey to score around the rim. This year it will take both to beat the best teams.

Go Huskies..!!

Doggydaddy here - I'd thought I would add Louisville to the mix. They could be big competition as well. They played 10 games. Dana Evans and Kianna Smith are very good shooting at 37.9%/58 tried and 39%/41 tries from three. As a team they are 32.7%  69-211

No. 2 Louisville 89 Boston College 70 - Louisville was really never challenged in this game moving to 11-0 on the season and 4-0 in the ACC. Player of the Year candidate Dana Evans was terrific again with 24 points going 3-5 on threes. She is just a driving force for this Cardinals team. Overall they had a great offensive game shooting 57% from the field, 48% on threes and 11-13 from the free throw line. Their downfall will be their defense this year. But still, a final four contender.

No. 5 South Carolina 106 Vanderbilt 43 - Well, what can you say about a 63 point blowout except South Carolina is really good and Vanderbilt is really bad. Destanni Henderson had a nice game with 12 points, 9 assists and 7 rebounds. And the much maligned Brea Beal, had 17 points and went 3-4 on threes. She had been disappointing on offense. That is big for South Carolina. On the downside, Aliyah Boston had a downturn in performance. I guess if 9 points,  10 rebounds and 4 blocks is down, most teams would take it. But expectations for her are through the roof and she is not really living up to them.

No. 7 Texas A&M 61 LSU 65 OT -  LSU saw its big lead totally evaporate by the fourth quarter against Texas A&M but the Tigers were able to force overtime and get the victory over the Aggies. Tiara Young led the LSU in scoring with a career-high 20 points. Khayla Pointer added 17 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Faustine Aifuwa had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. N’dea Jones led Texas A&M  with 16 points and 10 rebounds. LSU led by as many as 17 points in the second quarter and had a 10-point lead at halftime. Texas A&M fought back and retook the lead with less than 1:00 left in regulation. LSU was able to tie it to force overtime and scored the first six points of the extra frame. Great game! LSU almost beat Tennessee in their last outing and parlayed that into this nice win.

No. 9 Maryland 90 Minnesota 73 - Maryland beat up on one of the bottom teams in the Big Ten. Maryland is averaging 94 points per game this season, good for second in the country. They just miss that mark tonight,  Maryland controlled the game throughout and shot 44% from beyond the arc. Guard Katie Benzan finished with 20 points on 60% shooting from three, Diamond Miller led all players in scoring with 23 points and Chloe Bibby also added 22 points and nine rebounds. Ashley Owusu finished the game with 11 points, eight assists and five rebounds.

No. 10 Oregon 41 No. 11 Arizona 57The Oregon women's basketball team was unable to recover from its slowest start of the season as the fell to Arizona.  Not a big upset as Arizona was at home. Oregon struggled throughout the opening period, with Arizona jumping out to a 17-2 lead through the first seven minutes. The Ducks began fighting back midway through the second quarter, with a three-pointer highlighting an 11-4 Oregon run that cut Arizona's lead to 26-18. Arizona took advantage of some late Oregon turnovers to finish the first half on a 9-2 run and take a 36-22 lead into the locker room. Oregon got back to within 11 midway through the third quarter, but the Ducks again went cold offensively and finished with only five points in the period. Arizona finished the quarter on an 8-0 run and led 46-27 entering the final 10 minutes. Arizona built its lead to 23 points five minutes into the fourth quarter. Oregon put together runs of 8-0 and 12-2, but it was too little, too late as the Wildcats snapped a 10-game losing streak to the Ducks.

No. 13 Michigan 69 Wisconsin 40 - Michigan dominated Wisconsin  behind a great performance from Maddie Nolan, who scored 21 points, including five three-pointers. Wolverine star Naz Hillmon only scored six points on 2-6 shooting but had 15 rebounds and 7 assists to lead Michigan in both categories. Akireneh Johnson added a double double with 15 points and 11 rebounds The Wolverines dominated the game from the start and led by 20 at halftime before coasting and increasing the lead to a final difference of 29 thanks to a strong fourth quarter. They are still undefeated at 10-0 and 5-0 in the Big Ten conference.

No. 14 Mississippi State 78 Alabama 86Alabama upset Mississippi State pulling away late behind Jordan Lewis and her 22 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. All five starters were in double figures for Alabama and it was a good thing as the bench contributed only 6 points. The Crimson Tide fired up 30 three pointers making 11. It was clear that was their plan to win this game. The way Mississippi State played, you can bet their fans are missing Vic Schaeffer on the bench. I'm hoping that Alabama brings this momentum when they play Tennessee at home on Sunday afternoon. ROLL TIDE!!

No. 17 Arkansas 84 Florida 80 - Late Game

No. 18 Indiana 66 Purdue 45It was largely back and forth contest between the two Indiana schools with Purdue actually leading for a few minutes in the first quarter. The score was knotted up at 15 with 8:53 left in the second quarter, then Purdue did not score a single point for 11 straight minutes. Yes, if you missed the game you are reading that correctly. Pretty much one quarter and one minute of scoreless play. The Hoosiers went on a 20-0 run that bled into the third quarter and the Game was basically over. Grace Berger led Indiana with 22 points and 7 assists.

No. 20 Gonzaga 71 Santa Clara 52 - Late Game

No. 21 Texas 79 Kansas 72 Charli Collier had 28 points and 14 rebounds and Texas bounced back from its worst Big 12 loss since 2012-13 to beat Kansas. In a 92-58 loss to West Virginia on Saturday, Collier picked up three fouls in the first quarter and finished with just five points on two shot attempts and a free throw. She surpassed her previous point total before the two-minute mark of the first quarter against Kansas, had 15 points in the first half and ended the game with 11-of-21 shooting from the field. Celeste Taylor added 23 points for the Longhorns (9-2, 3-1 Big 12) and tied a career high with four 3-pointers, all in the first half. Hard to believe this was the same team that lost to big to West Virginia.

No. 23 Tennessee 66 Georgia 67 - I guess sometimes your wishes come true. Georgia came back from a 17 point second half deficit to win in Knoxville for the first time since 1996. It wasn't just losing the lead, it was how they did it. 24 turnovers were just devastating. Many of those led to easy layups on the other end. The Lady Vols were ahead 44-25 in the third quarter before Georgia just took over the game. From that point until there was 4 minutes left in the game, Tennessee was outscored 40-13. Wow. Talk about falling apart. But in typical SEC fashion, the Lady Bulldogs tried to give it away. They only scored 2 more points in the game, a layup with 2 minutes remaining to take a 67-62 lead. Tennessee scored two baskets to get to within one point the last one a layup by Rennia Davis with. Tennessee had no team fouls at that point so in order to force Georgia to the foul line they had to foul 5 times in 16 seconds. The big center for Georgia Jen Stati missed her two free throws and then it got even uglier. In the last 12 seconds, both teams turned it over 2 times each and the clock finally ran out. That trip to the Top 25 didn't last long for the Lady Vols. I'm crushed.
