Bryan Jackson, a 2006 UConn grad, turned a little social media fun during a recent men's basketball game into a hot sauce challenge that raised $12,000 in two days to purchase tickets for future UConn basketball and football games

A Hot Sauce Challenge is raising money for the Husky Ticket Project, a non-profit organization that purchases tickets for youth groups for UConn basketball and football games. It's all over UConn social media.

My friend Chappie had a great line - "If Saylor is a great three point shooter, maybe we can start singing "Poff the magic shooter lives by the three"?"

I didn't realize how many HS seniors graduated early and joined their college team for 2nd semester. Should be interesting to see how many of these players contribute any meaningful minutes for their teams. Darius played 20 minutes and scored 8 points for UCLA in her second game.

I think that even as complicated it can be to learn the UConn schemes, if Saylor can physically handle minutes, Geno will give them to her. You know she will work hard enough to earn them.

Cal will have to wait to follow up its strong performance in a losing effort against Colorado, as tomorrow’s game against Utah has been postponed due to COVID-19 developments within Cal.

Liberty women's basketball coach Carey Green will remain off the bench for the foreseeable future. In a school release on social media, Green, the coach of the Lady Flames since 1999, has tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss Liberty's weekend doubleheader with Northern Alabama.

Andra Espinoza-Hunter, formerly of UConn, has played 4 games for Seton Hall this season and made quite an impression. AEH is averaging 35 minutes a game and scoring 17.3 points per game, 2nd highest on the team. Last night she had 25 points in a win vs Marquette. For the season, she is 22-53 or 41.5%, including 16 made threes. Obviously, shooting threes is her specialty and accounts for 48 of her 69 points.

One thing for sure is she is no Paige Bueckers..!  AEH has exactly 1 assist in her 143 minutes on the court. One, the number after 0 but before 2. That was probably a shot that missed badly and a team mate put back for a basket.  8-)

Lauren Park-Lane, the diminutive point guard on Seton Hall has taken 112 shots for the Pirates, more than double AEH. But, she has 45 assists. That is 45 times more than AEH. Paige has 36 assists and only 88 shots. Even Autumn Chassion, the Huskies walk-on, has 2 assists in 9 minutes of action. Take note, Andra, your 8 turnovers makes your 1 assist look even worse. Be a team mate & pass the ball once in a while...

Go Huskies..!

No. 6 Baylor 71 Iowa State 75 - Missing two players that didn't get their Covid test back in time to be allowed to play (Carrington and Bickles), Baylor came into this game having not played in two weeks and only having one practice before the game. And it showed. Iowa State played some inspired basketball to take a 23-12 after the 1st quarter. However, the Lady Bears hunkered down on defense to hold ISU to only 11 points and close to 34-33 at the half. And interesting half time stat. Both teams had 5 players play that didn't score. For Baylor, Jada Owens, the transfer from UCLA got some extended minutes and hit two three pointers in the first half to help drive the Lady Bears. The third quarter went back and forth until the 2:47 mark where Iowa State went on a 9-2 run to end the quarter to take a 56-50 lead. Quenn Egdo was out of the game with her usual foul trouble. Baylor once again turned on the defense and started the final quarter with a 10-2 run to take a two point lead. But the Cyclones, who start three freshmen, stopped the bleeding and retook the lead and expanded it to 5 points, 70-65, with 3 minutes left in the game.  Baylor closed to two points but Iowa State' Ashley Joens was able to drive the lane for a layup and a 4 point lead with 8 seconds left. Baylor missed their last shot and that was it. Great win for Iowa State. Joens led the way for the Cyclone with 27 points. They only got 4 points off the bench. Baylor was led by Owens off the bench with 15 points, but it was on 5-14 shooting.

No. 15 Ohio State 55 Nebraska 63 -  For the third time this season, unranked Nebraska upset a ranked team, this time the 15th ranked Buckeyes. The Cornhuskers have been playing great defense and this time they did to Ohio State. The Buckeyes only shot 26% from the field 18% on threes and 54% from the free throw line. If it wasn't for the fact they only had 6 turnovers, it was clearly an UGGY effort. Those wins against ranked opponents should help Nebraska with their NCAA Tournament hopes and seeding.

No. 19 DePaul 78 Georgetown 54 - DePaul continues to show they are the 2nd best team in the Big East with an easy win over Georgetown. Sonya Morris scored 26 points, 18 in the first half. Lexi Held added 15 points Kelsey Ransom led Georgetown with 13 points. The Hoyas started the season dealing with postponements and cancellations due to COVID-19 issues. Georgetown didn’t play its first game until Dec. 19, almost a month after most teams started the season. They have only played 4 games and all of them were conference games. Crazy.

No. 20 Gonzaga 76 San Francisco 52 -  Gonzaga had a hot shooting night and a contribution from its bench, to beat San Francisco in a West Coast Conference game,  Kayleigh Truong scored 17 points and had five assists to lead a balanced outing that saw 10 Zags score at least four points. Yvonne Ejim shined off the bench, scoring 10 points on 5-for-5 shooting from the floor. Gonzaga shot 44% from beyond the arc and 55% overall en route to its 11th straight win.

Wow...four Top 25 games and two upsets. It's crazy out there!!! I guess I should cut Baylor some slack as they were down two players and hadn't played in two weeks. But still, great teams find a way and they didn't do that. Watching them I really wish UConn had played them.
