UConn vs Georgetown
2:00 EST Storrs, Ct.
TV - SNY

UConn welcomes Georgetown to Gampel Saturday in a quick turnaround game after the tense outing against Tennessee. The big question is whether or not Paige Bueckers is good to go after twisting her ankle.

Not much to say here. Georgetown is 1-4 on the season, only beating Butler. They have maybe the worst stats I have seen for a UConn opponent. Of course some of that is because they have only played 5 games. And it doesn't help them that they played DePaul twice already this season.

A few stats.

They have scored 49 PPG and given up 65 PPG, a negative 17 points per game.
They have one player in double digit scoring and that is at 10.3 PPG.
They shoot 31.8% from the field and 19.4% on threes. Oh, and 57.6% from the FT line.
They have 45 assists and 109 turnovers.
That is a negative 5.6 assist to turnover ratio. Never seen anything like that before.

Ok, that's enough. If I could give an UGGY award for a season to date, this would be it!!

Prediction? It could be anywhere from 50-70 points. Just a scrimmage.

So, I decided to go to Volnation.com and see how the Lady Vol fans are taking this loss.

It's a mixed bag. Some are saying, "great game for the Tennessee, something to build on". Some are upset the game got away from them again, like last year. But the posts that really got my attention are the ones that trash UConn. It's kinda funny, because by trashing UConn, they are trashing Tennessee as they couldn't beat UConn. Too funny.

Anyways, I thought I would share a few and give my usual sarcastic comment I would make on that board if I didn't think it would get me banned...lol.

I wasn’t impressed either. Unless they improve quite bit between now and March I could see this UCONN team getting knocked out in the Sweet 16. They don’t have a true leader. Westbrook ain’t it, no matter what Geno says. Saw 0 leadership from her last night outside of the two late shots she hit. Bueckers is their emotional leader but she’s a freshman. Also 0 inside game. Edwards and ONO could not handle our size and I don’t see that getting better. ONO is a junior and she still can’t score against an equal sized opponent.

Sweet Sixteen? Does that mean Tennessee will be out in the first round? And boy, does that Evina had show much? You saw zero leadership? What does that mean? Yeah, outside of her two big three pointers in the fourth quarter she did nothing..lol. Those were the biggest threes other than the Bueckers shot and guess who passed her the ball. And the lousy inside game had 13 points and 14 rebounds. Not too shabby.

think people are just used to seeing mega-stars at UConn like Taurasi, Moore, Stewart etc and think Bueckers is supposed to be that. She isn’t on that level but will be a multi-year first team all American and probably the first player drafted when she’s eligible.

Hmmm...multi-year first team AA and first player drafted in the draft. I think UConn fans will take it. That would be the same honors that Taurasi got.

The thing that worries me most is dirty play from Westbrook.

Yeah, this is a pre-game comment but still deserves airing. This didn't play well after the game, as even the Tennessee Vol fans had to admit.

the refs must come with unconn . tenn breath near them refs call a foul. unconn had lot more freedom to get away with some contact.

Yeah, there were several posts complaining about the refs and the foul shooting disparity. To me that is the lament of a loser. Boo friggin' hoo.

Pfft...UCONN SUCKS, they’ll get schooled by anyone in the top 10. That UCONN team is top 15 only...they are #3 bc of the brand name.

I don't even know what to say to this one. It hurt my head just to read it. So stupid.

Westbrook is not good, this is the most she scored in entire season.

Actually, this is not only a pointless statement, it's an inaccurate one. She scored 15 points in this game and scored 17 in the game against Villanova. Oh she is good. She is very good and playing better and better.

OK, that's enough for now. I know there are more but you get the gist.

While there are no Top 25 games cancelled or postponed Friday there are 9 games outside the Top 25 that will not be played.

The WCC showdown featuring BYU Women’s Basketball against No. 20 Gonzaga in The Kennel has been postponed. The Saturday game was postponed due to COVID-19 protocols within the BYU program.
It’s the fourth game in the last five scheduled games that have been postponed on BYU’s schedule, and it’s the second game this week to get pushed back.

The Eastern Carolina women’s basketball team  will not be hosting No. 14 South Florida  Saturday at 1 p.m. due to COVID-19 complications within the Bulls program,

Geno (and staff) use the regular season games to prepare the team for the NCAA tournament. Simply put, he wants the players to face adversity of every kind, so that nothing surprises them in the "win or go home" setting of the tourny. He wants them to suffer through bad shooting nights and still win. He wants them to play away games in front of hostile fans and not be affected. He wants the players to find a way to win when losing late in the game. He wants the best players to grab the most critical moment and be great..!! Did any of that happen against Tennessee last night?

All of it happened in a single game..!!  But, the Huskies still won 67-61 against the Orange team we all dislike...
Consider:
1. UConn missed 10 of 15 shots to start the game & 10 of 14 shots to start the 2nd half. That is 31% for those 2 periods.
2. The Tennessee crowd was estimated at 3,553 and very hostile against former player Evina Westbrook & the Huskies.
3. The Huskies started the 4th quarter down 49-45 and missed their first shot. They then made 8 of the next 18 attempts (45%).
4. The defense held Tenn. to only 5 baskets in the final 10 minutes. (5 of 16 shooting)
5. Paige Bueckers missed 5 straight threes before making her last try with 28 seconds left in the game & UConn up by only 2 points. (And after injuring her ankle)

Recap: Away game, large, hostile crowd, bad shooting night, best player injured and not shooting well, losing late in the game.... and they find a way to win. IMO if you don't see this as a great win for this young team, you don't understand team sports or player psychology.

Go Huskies..!!

No. 5 Stanford vs No. 6 UCLA (10:00 EST) -

No.10 Arizona 66 Utah 54 - So not impressed with Arizona. No. 10 in the country? I don't know about that. However, in this game they beat up on PAC12 weak sister Utah. Aari McDonald had another 20 point game for Arizona, but she might be the most overrated star of a Top 25 team. She shot 7-19 from the floor, not an unusual percentage for her. I love her speed but she seems to play out of control and is what we used to call a gunner, and not in a good way. Utah set a team record tonight, and I'm sure they would have rather not done it. They had 29, yes 29 turnovers.

No. 13 Oregon 58 Washington State 50 - Oregon put away a game Washington State team with a late run Friday night. In a low scoring affair, Oregon was led by the often injured Sedona Prince, who had missed several games in a row before coming back against Arizona in a losing effort. In this game Prince had 14 points, 6 rebounds and a block. A good sign for Oregon. Charlisse Leger-Walker had 24 points for Washington State. Nyara Sabally had a tough moment with 8 minutes left. She stepped on Washington State player's foot and really turned her ankle badly. She looked done for the night, but after several minutes in the locker room, she came back smiling and then re-entered the game. Another couple of PAC12 teams that I'm not impressed with. But for sure, Oregon has the biggest roster in the country. They don't all play, but they have 6'7", 6'6", 6'6", 6'5", 6'4", 6'4", 6'2" and 6'2". Crazy.
