Arkansas coach Mike Neighbors on his team and the UConn game

"We had players that played 30 minutes and didn't get one rebound, not one. They got as many as I did"

I really like this guy.

Well, not all the time. I do appreciate the women's scores to help me with my blog. However, in this piece they had about the UConn/Arkansas game is just so lame. Totally lazy writing.

Arkansas Team Stats

Arkansas' 85.4 points per game this season out-paces the 48.5 points per contest UConn allows. The Razorbacks are 11-6 when they score over 48 points.

Guess what.....THEY ALWAYS SCORE OVER 48 POINTS!!! Their record is 11-6. What a stupid comment. Yes, they "out-pace" what UConn gives up. However, THEY HAVEN'T PLAYED UCONN!!

In the 2020-21 campaign, the Razorbacks are averaging 13.2 assists and 9.9 turnovers per game. When Arkansas has a better assist-to-turnover ratio than its season mark of 1.33, the Razorbacks are 6-1.

UConn Team Stats

UConn's 85.1 points per game this season out-paces the 74.4 points per contest Arkansas gives up. The Huskies are 10-0 when they score over 74 points.

No, they are 8-0 when they score over 74 points. They won their last two games scoring 67 and 71 points.

The Huskies have connected on more three-pointers than their opponents this season, making 6.6 shots per game from deep while holding opponents to six makes per game. When UConn hits its average from three-point range this season, the Huskies have gone 5-0.

So, did they just decide to use three pointers? They are undefeated so you could say that on any statistical column. Yes, they are 5-0 when they hit their average on threes. And they are 5-0 when they don't. Geeze, they are so stupid.

By David in Naples

David is taking the night off!
I'll take a shot at some stats!

Paige Bueckers is the clear leader in statistics for the Huskies. However, if you look at the stats you will notice that Bueckers is averaging 1/3 more minutes than Olivia Nelson-Ododa.

Taking that difference in minutes and recalculating Olivia's numbers you see a 1st team AA.

Points per game - 23.7
Rebounds per game - 11.6
Blocks per game - 3.0

That on top of shooting 64% from the field.

Pretty darn good.

And as soon as I wrote this David sent me this. What a guy!!!

Anna, Aubrey and Aaliyah share the 5th starter position for UConn this season. Anna has 6 starts, Aubrey 3 and Aaliyah the last one. In total that is 10 starts by 3 players who could not be more different in their talents and specialties. Consider:
1. Anna as a 3 point shooter has taken 31 threes. Aubrey is 1-8 and Aaliyah has not tried a shot from beyond the arc.
2. Anna is a good passer and has 34 assists. Aaliyah has but 4 and more turnovers (21) than Anna and Aubrey combined at 19.
3. Aaliyah has a gaudy 64% field goal success rate while Anna bombs away, mostly from the arc, at 42%. Aubrey splits the difference with a 58% rate.
4. Aubrey has the 2nd most free throw attempts at 32. Anna has yet to try from the charity stripe despite 252 minutes of action. Aaliyah has 23 tries.
5. Aubrey and Aaliyah have 19 blocks between them, Anna only 4. But Anna and Aubrey both have 12 steals, while Aaliyah has managed only 4.

If Geno could only combined the strengths of each, the points per game would be 22, rebounds over 13 and assists over 5. That would be an All American who could score from anywhere and dominate every aspect of the game.

Once again we have another big Thursday of games. It's REALLY big! This time it includes No. 3 UConn at No. 19 Arkansas.  Of course there were a few postponed games. I'll list them in the Thursday blog.

No. 1 Louisville vs North Carolina - Will Lousville finally lose a close one or just blow out a team?

No. 2 North Carolina State at Virginia Tech - Only their second game back from Covid break.

No. 3 UConn at No. 19 Arkansas - 'nough said!

No. 4 South Carolina at No. 21 Mississippi State - This could have been a great game but MSU is overrated.

No. 7 Maryland vs Rutgers - Finally, RU is playing again. Too bad it's against a tough Maryland team.

No. 8 Texas A&M at Auburn - A snorer. Auburn is bad. The Aggies are really good.

No. 14 Ohio State at No. 16 Indiana - A really good Big Ten game. A pic 'em game.

No. 15 Kentucky vs Alabama - Kentucky looked really bad against Tennessee. Can they bounce back?

No. 18 Gonzaga at Pacific - Gonzaga will easily beat Pacific and every other conference team

No. 20 Tennessee vs Ole Miss - The Lady Vols are on a roll! That sometimes doesn't bode well for them.

No. 22 Georgia vs LSU - LSU has been tougher than their record. Georgia is coming off a big win.

No. 23 Northwestern at Iowa - My upset special! Super Freshman Caitlin Clark with a big game.

Wow, 15 Top 25 games!!!! I fingers are tired already!!

****************************************************
No. 6 Stanford at Washington State - Late game

No. 24 West Virginia 73 Texas Tech 53 - West Virginia looked like a team that wants to stay in the Top 25 after an easy win over Texas Tech. The Mountaineers got off to a slow start and led only 14-11 after the first period but used their excellent defense and the bad offense of the Red Raiders to win going away. Kysre Gondrezick once again led West Virginia with 24 points. She was 4-5 on threes and 8-9 from the free throw line.
