GO UCONN!!!!!

OREGON 72 UCONN 59

Well, that was ugly. Oregon just put it to a really shorthanded UConn team. I'm not sure we could have expected anything different after the Christyn Williams news. One more health issue for this team, and it was maybe the biggest key for UConn at this time. Williams scoring and defense was certainly missed this game.

With only six players in the rotation, UConn couldn't afford to get behind and sady, that is exactly what happened.

You all know me by now. There is enough negative, most over the top, on the message boards so you don't need me piling on. When you lose your leading scorer and best guard defender an hour before gametime,  I'm willing to take it easy on any player that struggled.

There were a few bright spots for the Huskies, so I will mention those.

They didn't give up. That was great to see. They played hard throughout.\

Carolina Ducharme is going to be a star. While she didn't have her outside shot going, she still scored 22 points on 10-21 shooting. And she played 40 minutes. But being a freshman she had five painful turnovers.

Many fans were belittling Nelson-Ododa's current hot streak because it was against weaker teams. Well, this wasn't a weak team. Nor  a small team. And Olivia showed what she is made of. She had 17 points on 7-9 shooting added 8 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals and 3 blocks. And only 1 turnover. A great game in a losing effort.

Gee, I thought Muhl was on a minutes limitations? She came through with 40 of them in this game. A real gutsy performance.

UConn did outrebounds the Ducks. That's a good thing.

Look, there really is not much more to say about this game from my perspective. No Bueckers, no Fudd and then an hour before the game, no Williams. No, I didn't forget about Griffin. But she won't be back. The other three will.

We, as fans, will just have to deal with the up and downs of this season. I'm hoping in just a few weeks, it will be ups when UConn has it's missing players back.

Straight from the Dog

We all need some good new so here it is.

Geno - "Azzi's coming along, we got some good news the other day, that she can start doing some things and hopefully we can get her out on the court before too long."

It could be Friday against Seton Hall!!!!

No. 22 Colorado lost consecutive games after winning their first 13 games of the season. It was a big day in Oregon as both teams won over ranked teams. This game was a lot more competative than the UConn game against Oregon. OSU beat the Buffaloes in overtime 69-66. Talia Von Oelhoffen hit a late three pointer in the extra session for the win.

Ya know, I really don't understand people and how they can trash players. Players that play their hearts out and we are the fortunate recipients of their efforts. I won't dignify their idiotic comments by posting them here. I'm just glad that so many fans understand what this team is going through and we will all benefit from when Williams, Bueckers and Fudd are healthy and all out on the court.

I hope when the NCAA's come around, UConn gets to revenge all these losses.

Who do I hope they play with their full compliment of players?

Certainly this latest loss Oregon State. Maybe Georgia Tech in the Sweet Sixteen? Next up would be Louisville. I'm still hopeful UConn can beat Tennessee as Williams and Fudd will be available. But how about beating South Carolina for the championship?

Hey, I can dream, can't I?

Very proud of the effort tonight by the Huskies. They battled until the end. Started off with a 10-0 run and ended with a 10-3 run. ESPN had the audacity to show a graphic about the last time UConn lost by 20 points. Been saving that one since 2007. Idiots.

The final score was 72-59. I’m just a stats guy, but isn’t that a difference of 13? Double idiots.

Stats for the night:

1. Ducharme got off the bus shooting. Ended up 10-21 for 22 points. Only 1-8 from deep, but hustled for 40 minutes.

2. Olivia battled all game. 17 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 blocks. 7-9 shooting..!

3. Evina picked a bad night to shoot poorly, 3-10. But 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.

4. 19 turnovers won’t win the game. Neither will missing 15 of 18 threes.

5. Of interest, UConn starters scored 55 points. Oregon’s starting 5 scored 44.

And finally, since it matters so much....UConn won the 4th period 18-10 AND out rebounded OU 36-34. So there is that consolation....

Go Huskies..!
