No. 9 UCONN SETON HALL
71 38
Defense, defense, defense! What do you do when your team can’t shoot?
Play some GREAT defense!
And it wasn’t just a few players. Everyone did. It didn’t matter if it was man-to-man or a zone. The Huskies shut down both high scorers for Seton Hall, holding the Pirates to 26% from the field, 2-14 on threes, forced 14 turnovers and only 38 points.
Park-Lane shot 1-11 from the field scoring only 5 points and turned the ball over four times. She had scored 30+ points in her previous two games.
Espinosa-Hunter was 1-8 from the field scoring only 6 points.
Going hand in hand with defense is rebounding and UConn dominated the boards as well, out rebounding the Pirates 53-25 And a 17-2 advantage on offensive rebounds. That gave UConn 15 more shots than Seton Hall, a huge difference maker in the outcome.
Nelson-Ododa was dominating in this game with 17 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks.
Juhász was big in the post with 12 points and 9 rebounds. She did a great job jumping out at the guards on defense and then retreating back to the post.
The two guards, Muhl and Westbrook did exactly what Geno needed them to do. Between them they scored 24 points and handed out 7 assist and only had ONE turnover. They added 6 steals, four by Muhl.
A tough game for Ducharme with first half foul trouble but her defense was solid in her 30 minutes and ended up with 7 points and 6 rebounds.
I’m really getting excited about Gabriel. Every time she comes in she does a nice job in the post. She was 2-2 from the field with one foul shot for 5 points in her 8 minutes. I’d love to see her get some earlier minutes.
Up next is St. John’s, Who dwells in the basement of the Big East at 1-5. They beat Seton Hall earlier in the season but lost to the Pirates in their last game before meeting the Huskies.
The Red Storm are a high scoring team averaging 74 PPG. UConn will need more of their great defense for their road to victory.

BC - NOTRE DAME FINISH
The end of the BC – Notre Dame game was crazy. It was happening just as two grandkids were showing up so apologies if I don't have the exact sequence of events. It is not wildly unusual for the weaker team to overcome a six-point deficit, but most times that happens, the weaker team plays close to flawless. That wasn't the case last night.
BC was down by six late, definitely not an insurmountable lead but still a decent hill to climb. BC had a three to cut the lead to three, then after a miss at the other end, hit another one to tie it up. Mabrey responded with a three of her own, and BC came down and responded with another three to tie the game at 70 apiece.
After a Notre Dame turnover, BC hit a jumper to go up 72 – 70. Brunelle was fouled but missed one of her free throws, giving BC the ball and a slim one point lead with just over 90 seconds left.
Dickens made a very ill-advised attempt to thread the needle but there were two Notre Dame players between her and her target, both of whom could've picked it off without moving. Westbeld made the interception, then raced down for a layup but missed it (May have been blocked).
Now BC made another blunder. Understandable in the heat of them moment but I thought it sealed their doom. The shot clock was winding down; with about four seconds left, BC put up a shot that did not go in. Notre Dame secure the rebound, but BC ripped it away. However the BC player was still in end of shot clock mode. She jacked up a wild shot thinking she was trying to beat the buzzer, when in fact the shot clock has been reset because of the change of possession. With under 30 seconds left, she should have taken it back out, eaten some clock and forced Notre Dame to foul. Instead she jacked up a wild shot, Mabrey secured the rebound and threw an outlet to Olivia Miles who drove the lane. To Miles surprise, she was called for a charge, so no free throws for Notre Dame and the ball back to BC.
I'm guessing they were out of free throws because BC took it out under the Notre Dame basket. They got the first one in but were fouled and under the limit, so had to take it out again. This time the inbound pass was nowhere near BC player and fell out of bounds, turning the ball over to Notre Dame, who now have the ball at their end, down one point.
Dodson missed the layup, BC rebounded and was fouled. BC made only one of two, giving them a two point lead, but Notre Dame was a timeout had the ball with four seconds left at their end. The inbound did but missed the shot, and BC held on.
I think there were three different times in the last few seconds where I was saying to myself "BC has a chance oh no they just screwed up Notre Dame's going to win". Thankfully, Notre Dame made some errors of their own, and missed some shots, and gave BC a very thrilling victory.

As predicted by Doggy & David, UConn imposed their will on Seton Hall, 71-38.
The Hall scored 11, then 10, then just 8 and finally 9 points per period. Great defense held SH to 2 offensive rebounds, 26% shooting and created 12 steals. Seton Halls top two scorers, Park-Lane and Espinoza-Hunter went 2-19 and scored 11 points combined. Nika matched them with 11 pts of her own, and added 7 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists.
Balance was the key for the Huskies. Starters scored 17, 13, 12, 11 and 7 points. Assists by the starters were 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1. The big lineup for Geno worked as UConn dominated the boards 53-25. Nice victory at home..!
Go Huskies..!
