Highlight package from Toomey's game Saturday (1/22)

As predicted, Isuneh "Ice" Brady and Annaya Patterson both made the cut.

Congrats young ladies!! Well deserved!

Here is an ESPN Article breaking down all the players.

F/P Isuneh Brady
Cathedral Catholic HS (Calif.)
2022 espnW 100 ranking: 5
Signed with: UConn

Brady is a smooth operator with an old-school feel to her game. She can be powerful inside while also being a threat to knock down the 3-pointer. Her passing ability might help her most beyond just her physicality when she gets to UConn. When a team can run its offense through a forward or post, things really open up on the floor.

F/W Ayanna Patterson
Homestead HS (Ind.)
2022 espnW 100 ranking: 4
Signed with: UConn

Patterson arguably has the most jumping and leaping ability in the class. She has gone viral with two-handed dunks off of two feet. She is quick, fast and powerful. She can handle the ball like a guard, post up and knock down the jumper out to the 3. UConn is getting a player with some major potential next season.

Straight from the Dog

I listened to Geno's pregame presser and the good news about Christyn getting some minutes was awesome to hear. But I was more excited about the news concertning Azzi Fudd. She is not ready yet, but Geno said she is getting there. What I loved to here is that she had individual workouts but today (Tuesday) she is working out with the team. It seems to me she is only getting into game shape away from playing again. I have no idea how long that will be but I can imagine it won't be that long. I bet she plays against Tennessee at home. That is 13 days from now. Now, wouldn't that be great!!!

Maybe she got it out of her system? Ok...doubtful. Freshman Aneesha Morrow swept the Big East awards becoming the only player other than Paige Bueckers to do that mulitple times. I hadn't seen her yet, so I checked out Youtube and found this video of her game against Butler. Now Butler is bad, but she is really good.

She is a really quick leaper, can finish around the basket and has a nice mid-range jumper.

First let me say that I don't wish an injury on anyone. I hate when these fine young women get hurt and can't play.

Keyen Green, the backup center for the Tennessee Lady Vols, tore her ACL and is out for the season. Last year she only played in four games before hurting her knee and missing the rest of that season. Talk about bad luck. Two years at Tennesese and two years with season ending injuries.

However, I believe it's the obnoxious Tennessee fans that caused the bad luck. Ok, maybe that is a little much on my part. But their constant talking crap about UConn and their injuries, believing that Geno didn't play players on purpose to avoid games and other crazy comments certainly is bad karma.

So, how does this impact the Lady Vols going forward? Well, she is their only backup center with any minutes this season. And Tamari Key, their starting center who leads the country in blocked shots only averages 24 MPG. Green was averaging 15 MPG. Clearly Tennessee doesn't do small ball very often. They have two options.

Emily Saunders, who is a 6'5" junior. But in her career at Tennessee she has never been in the rotation. Her only minutes are in mop up time.

Karoline Striplin, a 6'3" freshman who also hasn't been much time off the bench. Certainly not against the starters on the other team.

They both had some decent games against the weak teams Tennessee played early in the season. But in SEC play?

Saunders  - 6 games, 13 minutes, 1-1 from the field, 2 points, 0 rebounds, 0 assists.
Striplin - 5 games, 19 minutes, 0-4 from the field, 0-2 on FT, 2 rebounds, 0 assists.

Neither are ready for prime time.

Not an easy situation for Coach Harper to deal with. I feel badly for the injured player, but not so much for the Tennessee fans.

Dorka Juhasz and Aaliyah Edwards have both played in all 15 UConn games. Dorka has started 9 games and totaled 339 minutes of play. Aaliyah has started 7 games and played 345 minutes. So basically, they have seen almost the same amount of playing time. Some of their stats are similar, but many are very different despite playing basically the same position, power forward.

Dorka has scored 107 points vs 100 for Edwards. But how they score is very different. Dorka has 6 threes on 22 tries and 19 free throws on 36 attempts. Aaliyah has tried only 4 threes and made just 1. She is a much better free throw shooter, 82%, but only has 11 tries. Juhasz has outrebounded Edwards by 93 to 61. Edwards has more steals 15 to 9 and more blocks 6 to 3.

So Dorka is playing farther from the basket, taking threes and getting fouled three times as often. But, she has grabbed 34 offensive rebounds and has 16 assists to Edwards 14. Aaliyah has not raised her game to last year's high level. She is now back to the 6th man off the bench spelling Olivia and Dorka.

Go Huskies..!!
