Up next is St. John’s, who dwells in the basement of the Big East at 1-5. They beat Seton Hall earlier in the season but lost to the Pirates in their last game before meeting the Huskies.
The Red Storm are a high scoring team averaging 74 PPG. They also give up 74 PPG. Pretty bad.
I checked the box score from the 3/6/2021 game and their last game against Seton Hall on 1/19/22 to see who is back from that game. With St. John's scoring at such a high clip, 11 PPG less than last season, you'd think they would have lost a ton of players. But the fact is that of the 7 players with the most minutes in last years 3/6 game, 6 have returned for this game. They are only missing Raven Farley, who had 4 points on 2-10 shooting. I'm not sure how much they will miss her against UConn.
They do add No. 3 Danielle Patterson, a 6'2" forward, a grad student from Indiana. She has moved into the starting lineup. She averages 9.9 PPG and 6.7 RPG.
Returning from the starting lineup is leading scorer No. 2 Lielani Correa, a 6' junior guard. She is scoring 20.4 PPG.
No. 30 Kadaja Bailey is a 6' senior guard and the second leading scorer at 14.9 PPG. She is also the best three point shooter at 37.9%.
No. 01 Unique Drake (still a great name) a 5'7" junior guard is a the third starter and scores at 10.3 PPG.
The returning "Rayven" is No. 20 Miss Peeples, a 6'3" senior forward, who has just returned to play 4 games in January after playing only 2 games before that. She is averaging 10.2 PPG and 11.5 RPG.
Off the bench is No. 13 Danielle Cosgrove, a 6'4" senior forward and No. 22 Camree Clegg, a 5'5" guard Grad student from Clemson. Clegg leads the team in assists with 52.
Sometimes prior games tell you a story, sometimes not. Is St. John's really a much better soring team? Or a reflection of their schedule to date? Are the players that much improved from last season considering most of them are back and get most of the minutes?
Probably a little of both. But the Johnnies better hope it's the latter. In last years game the returning players were pretty bad. They shot 27.8% from the field, 4-18 on threes, and turned the ball over 21 times. Correa and Drake were their leading scorers with 7 points each.
I'm guess they are close to on par with Seton Hall and if UConn can keep up their defensive intensity, the score should be similar.
UConn by 25+. And maybe lots of +.

OK....see the young lady in orange behind Mir Mclean on the UConn bench? That is Sara Strong, No. 5 in the class of 2024, a 6'2" forward. There is definate interest on UConn's part.

Straight from the Dog
The SEC gets way to much respect in my opinion. And I'll use Kentucky as an example.
Last week Kentucky was ranked No. 19. They proceded to lost two games, to Tennessee and South Carolina. They only dropped to No. 23. There are countless examples of teams dropping way more after that kind of performance. Take a look at their season prior to those two losses.
They have ONE good win, against Georgia. They lost to every other ranked team they faced and most weren’t close.
Indiana by 21
Louisville by 6
South Carolina by 20
Tennessee by 26
And one unranked teams
DePaul by 9
Yeah, they should have dropped right out the the Top 25.
Well, this week they lost to unranked Florida and dropped to 8-6 overall and 1-3 in the SEC.
I suppose this is a moot point now....lol. Bye Bye Top 25.

The Lady Vol fans HATE Charlie Creme. Check it out -
"He’s usually uninformed"
"Everytime Creme does something he seems to totally ignore the SEC"
"Good thing Charlie Creme doesn't do the seeding for the NCAA tournament. He is way off, way too often and then he just doesn't understand why. I can tell you why....... You have to look at the quality of the team, not the name on the chest and he tends to do that way too often."
"But Creme is determined to give NC State and Lousiville a #1 seed so i feel no matter what we do were locked in at 2 ...Although LV and NC state play head to head they will give them to nod over us regardless the loser."
"Charlie Creme is a fiction writer and Bracketology is a joke."
"Anothe crappy Creme article"
Get the picture?
So, in his latest Bracetology, Tennessee has been moved to a One Seed. Think their tune changed? They actually believe that Creme reads their message board...lol.
"Creme must read this board or got whiff of our disrespect from him now were a #1 seed"
"I know BRACKETOLOGY is not the official and final seeding for the NCAA Tournament, But it’s been a long time since I’ve seen a #1 by Tennessee’s name, and it looks Good."
Yeah, they still don't like him, but they appear to like his Bracketology now that Tennessee is where they believe they belong.

The 71-38 crushing of Seton Hall last night was complete in every way. Not just the score differential of 33 points, but how points were scored.
Consider:
1. Points from turnovers - UConn 15, SH 3.
2. Points in the paint - UConn 38, SH 8
3. 2nd chance points - UConn 21, SH 2
4. Fast break points - UCOnn 12, SH 0 (yeah, zero)
5. Time with a lead - UConn 37:54, SH 24 seconds
The two leading scorers from Seton Hall were a combined 2-19 or 10.5%... someone was playing great defense..!
Go Huskies..!!
