The ESPN guy that everyone loves to hate, Charlie Creme, put out his list of  the Top Ten freshman so far this season. It's really not a bad list. And our very own Carolina Ducharme came in at No. 9. I think it's pretty amazing considering how she didn't play much in UConn's first 4 games. Good for her! Here is what he had to say about her -

"Ducharme began the season barely getting off the Huskies' bench. In Monday's loss at Oregon, she played 40 minutes. The injuries that have rocked UConn's season have given her an opportunity that Ducharme has grabbed. Her efficiency is still a work in progress -- she needed 21 shots to score a team-leading 22 points against the Ducks -- and Ducharme has work to do on the defensive end, but she has at times been the Huskies' best player. In the seven games Paige Bueckers has missed with a knee injury, Ducharme has led UConn in scoring four times and is now third on the team in points per game."

No. 1 on that list was fellow Big East player, Aneesah Morrow from DePaul. She has had a great season so far averaging a double double.

The best part is that no Tennessee freshman made the list and they are crazy about on on Volnation.com.

"It's just ESPN doing ESPN type of things. I love Morrow and felt she would definitely should be number one but this is where I get annoyed by them and their rankings. Miles is good but shouldn't go on this list because she kind of had a head start playing some last season. Also they had to find a way to include a UConn player, has she played well these past couple of games yes, but with the small sample size in the amount of games she's played, she should not have made this list. Call it being a homer but if they (ESPN) looked at all the freshman playing and felt Brooklyn nor Sarah play and feel at least one of them aren't worthy to be mention after ending the statement with they may not been rated in the Top 100 coming out of high school only to list Top 10 kids is crazy to me, but then when I noticed who wrote the article, it made sense."

Yeah, it's ESPN. And the logic that Notre Dame's Miles' 6 games played last year disqualifies her from an opinion piece is just dumb. Of course the obligatory UConn trashing. Ducharme only played well the last couple of games? More idiocy. Now comes the best part. Admiting they are a Tennessee homer, at least one of Brooklynn Miles or Sarah Puckett should be on the list? Let's take a closer look.

Puckett - 22.1 MPG, 7.6 PPG, 2.9 RPG. Ok....not bad but not close to the players in Creme's list.

Miles - 21 MPG, 2.8 PPG, 2.2 APG. She does have 16 steals, but really?

Boo hoo, Tennessee.

In other news, No. 7 Iowas State was minus their stars, the Joens sisters due to Covid issues and boy did that show in their big loss to No. 15 Texas. What a shock, a highly ranked team played really poorly without their stars, even with other good players still on the team. From a friend who watched the game - "Watching a Joensless Iowa St shoot like they have an eye closed. (28% through the 3rd period) Not just shooting. Balls thrown away, miss-communication, unopposed layups missed, badly. Joens has the entire offense designed around her. Her teammates are missing a lot more than her points. ESPN+ If you get bored rewatch the 1st half and tell me you don't see the same kind of zombie-play as the Huskies have shown."

No. 24 Florida Guld Coast easily beat Stetson (how tough is it to beat a hat in basketball) and their star Junior Kierston Bell tweeted that she will be entering the 2022 WNBA draft. I linked the article about that and their win in the Top 25 section.

Since fans can't get enough Caroline Ducharme, here are the latest stats...

1. Scoring - As expected, CD moved into 2nd place in scoring with 135 total points. Christyn Williams is still 1st with 175 points. Liv is 3rd with 131 points.

2. CD is #1 on the team with 18 made three point shots. Christyn is 2nd with 17 made threes.

3. Ducharme is 2nd to Olivia with 10 blocked shots. (Liv has 29)

4. She is the best free throw shooter on the Huskies by a wide margin. She has made 17-20 or 85%. No one else is in the 80% range.

5. Caroline hs the 3rd highest personal foul count at 25. Liv and Aaliyah are higher.

6. In her last 5 games, CD has scored 101 points for an average of 20.2 per game.

Until the injured players return, CD will need to keep shooting and playing at this high level.

Go Huskies..!!
