GO UCONN!!!!!

UConn is now following this young lady on social media
Olivia Vukosa 6’4 F/P Philly Belles (PA) 2027

Already known as “Big-O” by many in the east coast basketball circles. In the world of youth bball sometimes being tall is all you really need. But in Olivia's case, she also has many perimeter skill sets to complement her size. During the game, she demonstrated the ability to play facing the basket as well as the ability to play as a “traditional big”. Due to her size and advanced skill set, she will be a top 10 prospect in the 2026 class.

KK Arnold involved in an intense game. Her team was facing better competition than they usually do and she was frustrated for long periods. She got a tech in the first half for swinging her arm after a fairly hard foul. She was held without a FG in the first half and Germantown was behind around 8 points early. Then she took over and made plays all over the court. Her teammates made a bunch as well. They won by 16.

26 points (8-15 FG, 2-4 3-PT, 8-12 FT), 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals

Here is a link to a great video about UConn target Cierra Toomey.

This could become a regular feature. Jackson is maybe the biggest name in the portal. And I'm sure there will be others. I think Geno likes how Dorka Juhasz is working out and with only two players coming in next year, it's worth keeping an eye on the Portal.

I'm guessing UConn's two 2022 recruits
Brady and Patterson will be selected.

Straight from the Dog

I worked hard on a UConn/DePaul Pregame Report.  My biggest decision was who to list as available to play. It sounds like Williams and Fudd will not be able to play and this will make UConn's ability to win this game a lot more difficult.

Well, I was close!

I had UConn staying at No. 9 but due to voters not really paying attention, No. 15 Texas was able to move into the No. 9 and UConn was pushed to the No. 10 spot. Yes, they moved up SIX spots.

I had Michigan moving to 7th and Arizona moving to 8th. I got those right.

So how did Texas slide ahead of the Huskies??

Texas beat last weeks No. 7 team, Iowa State and clearly that was the reason for the move up. And under normal circumstances that might be a reasonable choice. Although six spots is a little much.

But a closer look into that win tells a different story. Iowa State was very shoot handed in that game. Covid issues had their best players and one of the best guards in the country Ashley Joens. Not only that, her sister Aubrey Joens was out. Iowa State was clearly affected by those player missing. Now, you can't diminish the win for Texas,  but moving them six spots was a clear indication that the voters just don't pay attention. They just look at the scores.

Come on, put a little time into it!

It is always interesting to see who a team assigns to cover the other team's best scoring threat. The game within a game.  In last night's victory over St. John's, Geno used Nika to cover Leilani Correa, who was averaging 20+ points per game. Correa finished with 19 points on 14 shots and 5 free throws. Obviously, she got her points, but did NOT score in the 4th quarter. In fact, she took only 2 shots in the last 10 minutes. Why would the best scorer from St. John's not shoot much when the game was on the line?

Because, St Johns used her to cover UConn's best scoring option, Caroline Ducharme. CD is known to move without the ball all game long. If you watch a replay, focus on Ducharme constantly moving and Correa constantly trying to follow her. She could not keep up and CD scored 28 points on 22 shots. Many of Caroline's baskets were lay-ups off sharp cuts in the lane. She beat Correa like a drum.

Caroline Highlights - St. John's

UConn's strategy worked perfectly. Cover their best scorer with Nika and run that same player into the ground with her trying to cover CD. Caroline finished with 7 points in the 4th quarter. She seemed fresh and still running.

Go Huskies..!!
