Selection Committee
First Reveal 1-4 Seeds

The Selection Committee has spoken. And here are your top four seeds in each region.

Greensboro - South Carolina (1),  Arizona (8), Michigan (9), Kansas State (16)
Spokane - Stanford (2), Texas (7), UConn (11), Georgia (15)
Bridgeport - NC State (3), Indiana (6), LSU (12),  Baylor (13)
Wichita - Tennessee (4), Louisville (5), Iowa State (10),  Oregon (14)

Things can change before the next reveal, but right now it looks like UConn is heading west to Spokane.

The committee likes rematches at times and the Texas/Stanford game in the Elite Eight brings the two teams together against. Texas upset Stanford early in the season and is the main reason they are a two seed.

I really like UConn's Elite Eight opponent in Georgia. I think UConn really matches up well with them.

Here is the list of the teams in order of seeding. the second number is their AP Poll number.

South Carolina (1), (1)
Stanford (2), (2)
NC State (3), (3)
Tennessee (4), (4)
Louisville (5), (5)
Indiana (6), (6)
Texas (7), (9)
Arizona (8), (8)
Michigan (9), (7)
Iowa State (10), (13)
UConn (11), (10)
LSU (12), (12)
Baylor (13), (11)
Oregon (14), (19)
Georgia (15), (15)
Kansas State (16), (25)

The biggest surprise is Kansas State. Oregon is getting a lot of respect as well. That win over UConn did wonders for them.

The UCOnn/Tennessee games is going to be huge for both teams seeding. If UConn wins, both teams could be a 2 seed. If Tennessee wins, UConn could drop to a four seed.

Whatever happens, it looks like the Committee doesn't want UConn in Bridgeport.

Straight from the Dog

Remember that first reveal where Tennessee was a No. 1 seed? Not so fast. The Lady Vols were upset by 8-10 Auburn 71-61 in a huge upset. The Tigers were previously 0-7 in the SEC. The repercussions of this loss will reverberate in both the SEC regular season race and the NCAA tournament seedings.

They take on Arkansas next, who just beat the crap out of No. 12 LSU XX-XX. Then a really tough Florida team on the road. And then UConn at the XL Center. Could this bee a four game losing streak for Tennessee?

I think I'll wander over to Volnation.com and see how they are handling it. Ok....I'm not a nice guy...lol.

Wow, I have never heard of a player playing for two teams in the same season. Good for Mir. But I have to wonder why her and not other transfers.

She played Thursday night against Virginia Tech and had 11 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks. Viginia lost 71-42, but McLean had to get plenty of satifaction know that she can play and play well in Div I basketball.

As you know, I sometimes pick on the dumbass comments from the Orange Idiots about UConn. Well, there are plenty of UConn fans that can be just as dumb. This one particular poster has a bug up his ass about Nika Muhl.

"They monkeyed around outside way away from the basket and didn't even try to start the offense for 10-15 seconds at a time. Gotta say most of that was Nika. Nika had a good game overall but she didn't run the offense well. This is the best we can expect from Nika."

" my plan didn't include 34 minutes of Nika for sure, or Edwards that much either. Glad to see Nika doing better but she's still injury depth to me."

"Nika is a good player but we have a lot of good players. She started the season at number 8 or 9 in the rotation. When we are healthy that's probably where she ends up. We just have too much talent to rely on Nika for more PT than any other player today. She played more minutes today than anyone. My concern is what happens when we play top competition? Her game inevitably is less impactful. And I'm not liking how she handled the offense today. Too much time screwing around 35 feet from the basket, picking up her dribble, not doing much to create good shots. When she tries to drive to the basket God help us. Least likely player on the court to create a scoring opportunity on the drive. Shooting .389 for 2 and .250 from 3 so far and 3.9 points a game. Is that helping us? I'd rather have Paige, Azzi, Caroline, CW and Evina. That makes Nika injury depth. Why do I even have to say it? She's a good player on a team of great players."

Just too harsh in my opinion on a player that gives her all to the Huskies. Geno will find the right combination when Paige comes back, but in the meantime, Nika is the starting point guard and is doing everything that Geno asks of her. Period.

I can't take credit for this. I read it on a message board. Why did the refs call a timeout after Ducharme's basket to put UConn ahead? DePaul had not timeouts. They would have had to hand the ball to the ref and have 5 seconds to run whatever they could to get a shot off at the buzzer. Because the ref called timeout to check the clock gave DePaul a couple of minutes to talk about a play they might run to get that shot.

So what happened? Well, Caroline hit her shot and the clock ran off to 1.5 seconds. The ref on the baseline waves her arms like crazy to signal something. She gets together with the other two refs and then go to the scorers table to check the replay. It took them over a minutes to see they should at ONE TENTH of a second back on the clock. Seriously? That arm waving ref could tell the clock ran off an extra tenth? I call bullshit on that. Now maybe she thought it was more time that ran off incorrectly. I guess I can give her that.

DePaul was able to get off a half court shot. It missed. But it didn't miss by a lot.

I'd be madder if UConn lost but the refs sucked the entire game and all the way to the final 1.6 seconds.

I linked a really good article from the Daily Campus on how do you deal with UConn in March.

The comment on how UConn could be or should be seeded is really interesting:

Picture this scenario: UConn skates past the Big East shorthanded, as they have done in recent weeks and slowly add their missing pieces to their lineup. In their only remaining non-conference game, they lose to No. 4 Tennessee, keeping their status the same as a four seed in the eyes of the committee. In the first round, they beat a 13 seed easily. Next up is a five seed similar to the caliber of Notre Dame, who they beat by 19 earlier this year. They win that one.

Now, in the Sweet 16, UConn has been placed in Bridgeport, just an hour and a half away from Storrs. NC State, who has worked hard all season to achieve their status as a one seed, will now have to play what essentially is an away game against a full-strength Husky team that will be out for blood. How is this fair to NC State or whatever other poor one seed that UConn draws?

Now, as a UConn fans, I would love to see this happen. Can you imagine how pissed off all the other fans of WCBB will be, especially with UConn playing in Bridgeport.

Additional stats from last night's victory over DePaul...

1. Caroline D. scored 10 of UConn's last 14 points in the 4th quarter. Clutch...
2. According to the refs, Morrow from DePaul was fouled 8 times, while only fouling herself 2 times.
3. The Huskies shot 58.8% from the field in the 3rd period. They followed that with 84.6% in the 4th.
4. Azzi and Caroline scored 34 points on just 22 shots and 2 free throws.
5. The number of baskets scored by UConn players was 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, and 1.
6. DePaul had 5 "team offensive rebounds" and UConn had 4 "team defensive rebounds."
7. UConn scored 10 more points than their season average & DePaul scored 14 less than their average.

Really, really great come back win. This will help in the March Tournament.

Go Huskies..!!
