ESPN First Take Today - Uconn's Dominance is Hurting Women's Basketball?

As you would expect, she was a little bitter about Geno and the Olympic snub.

When asked about UConn's winning streak she said - "In college basketball it comes down to recruiting. And right now UConn has a monopoly in that. You go to Connecticut, you're guaranteed a championship. You're guaranteed to have a chance to play for USA Basketball. You're guaranteed a lot of different things. I have to remind them, when we were in college, there was a lot of parity. There were a lot of different players that went different places and challenged Tennessee. .... And I have to say, we did defeat them every time we played them when I was in college [Stephen A. Smith laughs]. I gotta throw that, how do you call it, throw that salt ...."

Unbelievable. I've listed this before but here are UConn ESPN recruiting class rankings the last few years.

2017 - 2
2016 - 14
2015 - 3
2014 - 4
2013 - outside the top 20
2012 - 1
2011 - 2
2010 - 3

So, yes, UConn gets a ton of great players. But other schools do as well. Here are a few from 2010 to now.

Duke - 1, 4, 7, 2, 3, 1, Outside the top 20, 12
Tennessee - 13, 1, 5, 3, 6, 13, Outside the top 20, 1
Notre Dame - 8, Outside top 20, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5, Outside the top 20

Looks like these three teams had some great classes as well. Look at Duke from 2010-15. Tennessee has been no slouch. and Notre Dame had 5 straight top 5 classes.

It's so much more than getting the best players. It's getting the right players. And having the right system and never compromising on that.

And this bitterness from Parker for not being picked for the Olympic team is pretty pathetic. She was and is the Diva before Deshields picked up a basketball.

The Mendoza Line for minimum points a team should score in a quarter is 15. Do that four times and you score 60 points for the game and have a chance to win. Against South Carolina, UConn scored 19, 16, 16 and 15 points in four periods. That totals 66 points. South Carolina scored 16, 13, 10 and 16 points, totaled 55 and lost. For the season, out of 100 quarters, UConn has failed to score 15 points only 7 times. The lowest quarter for scoring for UConn was 10 points at the end of the Kansas State blow out. Through 25 games, the Huskies average 21.5 points per quarter.

Last night, Mississippi State, the #3 team in the country opened their game by scoring 6 points in the 1st quarter. Six..! The Georgia team that held them to half a dozen points has a record of 13-13. Of course, MSU poured it on in the 2nd period and score 13 points. Despite only scoring 58 points, they won. How pathetic..! Not to be outdone, Florida State scored 5 points in a period last night. Unfortunately for them, it was in the 4th period of a tight game and they lost 60-51. By the way, FSU was ranked #4 in the country before losing. Not any more...

Most teams get 12-15 possessions per quarter. Up tempo games where teams "run and gun" can see 15-20 opportunities to score per period. Scoring 5 or 6 points in a whole period is truly embarrassing.

Here are some stats that may surprise even the best UConn fans:

1. Katie Lou has 80 three point baskets. That is 20 more than Saniya (28), Crystal (15), Napheesa (10), Molly (4) and Kyla (3) combined.
2. In 420 minutes of game time, Crystal has only 11 free throw attempts. Kyla has 19 attempts.
3. Molly has averaged almost 11 minutes per game in the 22 games she has seen action.
4. UConn has almost the same number of steals (260), as opponents have assists (261).
5. The Huskies have more assists (585) than opponents have baskets (527).
6. Saniya has 5 blocked shots, Katie Lou has 8.
7. Last season, only Stewie had more than 200 baskets. Pheesa already has 201.
8. Gabby has never fouled out of a game.

9. Tierney Lawlor has never missed a practice..!
10. UConn is 25-0.

I read where UConn is having one of the "worst statistical seasons" in a while this season. Excuse me, but bull sh-t..!!

1. Points - This season = 86.0 per game. Last three years = 82.1, 89.3 and 88.1
2. Assists per game - This season = 23.4 per game. Last three years = 21.2, 21.3 and 21.6
3. Shooting % - This season = 51.6%. Last three years = 50.3%, 54% and 53%
4. Free throw % - This season = 77.9%. Last three years = 75%, 72.6% and 80%
5. Three point % - This season = 39%. Last three years = 36.6%, 40.6% and 38.1%
6. Rebounds - This season = 39.2 per game. Last three years = 42.9, 43.6 and 40.7
7. Turnovers - This season = 12.2 per game. Last three years = 11.7, 12.1 and 11.9

In what alternative universe is this the "worst statistical season" in the last few years..??
