One more upset as No. 22 Kentucky beat No. 3 Mississippi State in OT 78-75. Well, how much of an upset was this?
The game was on Kentucky's home court so that was a big advantage for the Wildcats. And, at least in my opinion, Mississippi State is not that good. Who have they played and beaten of consequence?
Well, they do have a win over Texas. But that was early in the season when everyone was beating Texas. They didn't play another ranked team until losing to No. 6 South Carolina. It was a totally unimpressive game for both teams. Some ugly SECball. They didn't play another ranked team until they beat No. 23 Texas A&M by only 5 points who is no longer ranked.
Now they lost to the other ranked team. So they are 2-2 against ranked teams. Yes, they have only played two ranked teams all season.
MSU - another overrated SEC team.

By David in Naples!!!!!
Napheesa Collier was the perfect balance to Katie Lou Samuelson and Gabby Williams's talents as shooters and rebounders. Lately, she has moved past them in a number of statistical categories. Perhaps they are now the compliment to her.. Katie Lou is now only 21 points ahead of Pheesa (555 vs 534) for the scoring title. Gabby, who led in rebounding, is now 2nd to Collier (236 vs 242). Besides leading the team in rebounds, Napheesa also leads in blocked shot (49), made free throws (79), made baskets (221) and field goal percentage (68%). She is also 2nd in minutes played to KLS (808 vs 835) and 2nd in steals to Gabby (49).
While teams have double teamed Katie Lou and worried about her point production, Collier has routinely took them to the cleaners. Now their defensive game plan has to start with how to stop Collier, then worry about Katie Lou and Gabby. Last night's 2 three point baskets, her 12th and 13th of the season, now makes Napheesa a triple threat. She can hit from way out, drive the lane or pull up at 10-12 feet. Guarding her is the defensive equivalent of trying to herd 20 cats. You think you have her covered, right up until the moment you realize you don't. Too late...
For the season, Pheesa is now averaging 19.8 pts per game and just under 9 rebounds. She continues to be the only player who has fewer turnovers (42) than steals (49), blocked shots (49) and assists (58). By comparison, Maya Moore, who you may have heard of, averaged 19.3 points per game and 8.9 rebounds in her sophomore year. Those numbers sound very familiar...
Go Huskies..!!
