Got up even earlier for my granddaughter Noa's cheer competition. They were terrific again and came in second place. So happy for her and her teammates!!!!

Another slow start for the Huskies, only taking a 16-11 lead after one quarter. Katie Lou was something like 2-12 in the first quarter. If it wasn't for the great play of Napheesa Collier, they might have even been down for the quarter.

But after that, UConn slowly built their usual big lead. The Huskies really turned it on in the second half, shooting a scorching 24-33 .

I'll try to put together a post game report, but I just want to give kudos to Saniya Chong, who scored 17 points, had 7 assists and no turnovers along with 7 rebounds. She has really come into her own.

Only one upset in top 25 games and that was fellow AAC member South Florida who lost to Memphis Sunday. There were too many teams in the bottom five of the top 25 that lost to have this impact their rankings too much, but make no mistake about it, this will hurt their seeding. Memphis is not a good team.

UConn has taken 1,304 shots this season. Surprisingly, opponents have taken nearly the same number, at 1,295 shots. This is a difference of only 9 shots. How then, can UConn have scored 659 more points than opponents? That is an average difference of 31.4 points every game. The answer is accuracy and free throws. 8-)

Of UConn's shots, 393 or 30% have been from beyond the three point arc. Opponents have had to take 431 or 33% from three point range. Interestingly, the Huskies make 41% of their threes, while the bad guys only make 26%. That means 50 extra three pointers for UConn or 150 points. UConn also makes 56.8% of their attempts inside the arc. Opponents only make 39.5% of the closer in shots. That gives another 354 points to the good guys.

The final difference comes at the free throw line. UConn has tried 369 free throws and made 286 or 77.5%. The other guys only have 208 attempts and 131 makes. Chalk up another 155 points for the Huskies. Taking more free throws and making a higher percentage gives UConn 7.4 extra points per game. Add in better accuracy on threes, as well as  Gabby & Pheesa down low, and you get the recipe for an 86.1 point per game average. It is not the number of shots you take, but rather the rate at which you make them.

Go Huskies..!!
