Happy Anniversary to my wonderful wife of 41 years!!!!
As beautiful as the day we met!
Well, you don't see that every day folks. A single digit UConn win. The last one? February 2nd, 2013 against St. Johns.
I'll try to write a full post game analysis later but wasn't that a lot of fun???
UConn was able to overcome some sloppy play (17 turnovers, 10 in the first half) and foul trouble (21 fouls) to beat Florida State 78-76.
It was great to see Napheesa Collier play like we knew she could. Did her hip issue last year impact her ability to excel? It sure looks like it. Her 28 points and 8 rebounds led the Huskies and she added 4 blocks. The last one was the game saver. Quite the performance.
I'll add that I'm so happy for Sanyia Chong. She was terrific in this game, hitting all six of her shots and her only three pointer. More importantly, she had 6 assists and ZERO turnovers. She played like an experienced senior, hitting several big shots in the second half.
This year is going to be very different from that last three where they lost only one game in 123 games. They lost nine in the previous two years to this incredible run. I can see it being more like that.
But I posed the question in the preseason - If the Huskies get punched, will they punch back. I think that part was answered. For such a young team to find a way to come back on the road against a top 12 team.....well....it bodes well for the future.
They were able to win their 76th consecutive game the third longest in WCBB history.
Next is No. 2 Baylor, an 84-70 winner at home against No. 9 UCLA. Gulp!!!! At least they will be home in this very difficult game.

A few Top Ten highlights.
In her first game as a Gamecock, South Carolins's Kaela Davis scored 37 points on 10-21 shooting. She was 4-6 on threes and 13-16 from the line. That last number shows how aggressive she was on offense. Interestingly enough, POY candidate A'ja Wilson had a slow start, playing only 16 minutes before fouling out with only 5 points and 3 rebounds. Allisha Gray added 24 points in her debut. These two transfers could take South Carolina to the next level.
In the aforementioned Baylor/UCLA game, Kawani Brown scored 25 points and snared 19 rebounds and handed out 6 assists, all career highs to lead the Bears. Lauren Cox, No. 1 recruit in the 2016 class on many lists, really struggled in her debut. She only played four minutes but managed to put up four shots, missing all of them.
Notre Dame really struggled on offense in their 67-36 win over an overmatched Fordham team. They only shot 42% from the field and an unusual 1-8 on threes. The freshman class of Boley, Young and the RS Patberg have not really produced. Young hasn't played yet and Boley was 1-4 from the field in 17 minutes. Patberg is trying to find her way back from her injury that cost her all of last season. She only saw 7 minutes of play.
What a terrible shooting night for Nebraska against the 25th ranked Missouri Tigers. They lost 55-34, shooting a horrific 10-63 from the field. That's a sparkling 15.9%. They improve with a 6-31 effort on threes for 19.4%. Even when unguarded, they were only 8-15 on free throws for 53.3%.
They win the Bricklayers of America Award!!!!!
