Another upset in the top 25.  George Washington, who snuck into the rankings two weeks ago and moved to No. 20 in the latest poll played 11-12 Saint Louis.

GW was awful early, allowing SLU to jump out to a 17-2 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game. The Colonials were able to close the gap to 3 points by halftime. St. Louis quickly pushed the lead to 10 again. It would never be closer than six points, and SLU took a 22 point lead with two minutes left in the game. George Washington closed it to 18 point at the end losing 79-61.

A terrible loss for George Washington and if they make the tourney, this game will be huge in determining their seeding.

The NCAA released their initial Top seeds for the tourney. No surprise that UConn, Notre Dame, South Carolina are on the list. But Tennessee over Baylor? I'd love to hear the reasoning for that one. Maybe it's Baylor's blah schedule? But Tennessee has lost three games to Baylor's one. And Tennessee has lost to then unranked Chattanooga who is now No. 25 in one poll and unranked in the other and Texas, who was No. 6  at the time and are plummeting to the bottom of the poll. Baylor has lost to only Kentucky, still ranked in the top 10.

Wednesday night, Baylor won it's 22nd consecutive, beating Oklahoma 89-66. Nina Davis scored 31 points, Niya Johnson had a remarkable 17 assists. Alexis Prince continues her fine play with 16 points and 11 rebounds.  I'm pretty sure that Baylor deserves a top seed at this point.

In a clash of two Big 12 teams, Oklahoma State defeated Texas 66-60. Why mention this game? Two formerly ranked teams that dropped like a brick in the polls after losing several games.

Oklahoma State had a nice 10-1 start to the season, only losing to ranked UNC. They rose as high as No. 14 in the rankings. Since then the have gone 5-7.

Texas is even a crazier story. They were a pre-season No. 9 in the AP and No. 12. They won their first 12 games beating Stanford after Stanford had just beating UConn, beating Tennessee, beating Texas A&M, all highly ranked teams. This winning streak pushed Texas to No. 3 in both polls, even receiving four No. 1 votes in the AP poll and one No. 1 vote in the coaches poll

Since then they have gone 2-8 in their last ten games, losing their last 4 games.

Yes, injuries have impacted both teams. But they will need to win their tourney to make the NCAA's unless the win out. Highly unlikely.

Ugly Game Of The Day

This one was an easy choice for games played Wednesday night. When a team scored less than 30 points, it grabs your attention.

In a Metro Atlantic conference matchup, Fairfield beat Manhattan 43-26.

Manhattan managed this point total by shooting 26% from the field, 0-9 on three's, 2-9 on free throws and 15 turnovers. Their highest scorer had 6 points. Amazingly, they had 10 assists on 12 baskets. Huh??

Congrats to the Jaspers for such a wonderfully ugly game and winning our latest UGGY award!

Honorable Mention

Richmond scored 41 points, shot 25% from the field, 18% (3-17) on threes and 13 turnovers

Maryland-Baltimore County scored 41 points, shot 31% from the field, 0-9 on three's, 54% FTs,
16 turnovers

Central Michigan scored 46 points on 28% from the field, 22% (5-23) on three's, 21 turnovers
