UConn had another terrific game against Tulane Monday night. Led by KML scoring 21 points, Stewart with a double-double and Jefferson's 15 points, 5 assists and 8 steals, UConn won 94-47, doubling up their second consecutive opponent.
Here is my UCONN/Tulane post game report

Speaking of Moriah Jefferson, she is one the finalist for the Nancy Leiberman Award for the nation's best point guard. She is certainly one of the top contenders.
2015 Finalists
Niya Johnson - Baylor
Almesha Jones - Morehead St.
Angela Mickens - James Madison
Samantha Logic - Iowa
Syessence Davis - Rutgers
Nikki Moody - Iowa St.
Sydney Wiese - Oregon St.
Brittany Boyd - California
Moriah Jefferson - Uconn
Lindsay Allen - Notre Dame
Natasha Cloud - St. Joseph's
Kelsey Mitchell - Ohio St.
Damika Martinez - Iona
Tay'ler Mingo - Wright St.
Jefferson's reputation and playing on the No. 1 team are two reasons she might have the inside track to this award. You have scorers like Kelsey Mitchell and passers like Johnson. So many deserving players. I think that Samantha Logic might make the most sense (see what I did there?).
I'm pulling hard for Jefferson, but you can't go wrong with any of these talented women.

Another upset in the top twenty-five Monday with unranked Ole Miss beating No. 13 Kentucky 67-59. The Rebels are just a middle of the road SEC team and not one that a team with NCAA tourney aspiration should be losing to so late in the season. The Wildcats have now lost three consecutive games.
When they lost their point guard Janee Thompson to an injury for the season in the South Carolina game in early January, they struggled for a few games, going 2-2 before a quick 3 game winning streak. Now with the three losses, they are 19-8 and 8-6 in the conference. Their slot in the NCAA's is pretty much assured but with games against an improving Arkansas and South Carolina left on the schedule, they could go into the SEC tourney needing a few wins to get a good seed.

The South Carolina/Tennessee game was actually a pretty good one. South Carolina kept control of the game in the first half, building an 8 point lead early before Tennessee tied it at 26 all. SC built the lead back up to 6 points before leading at halftime 36-33.
The second half was similar to the first and South Carolina built the lead up to nine with ten minutes left. Tennessee closed. But after Coates hit a free throw to make it 67-57, South Carolina did their best to give the game to Tennessee going scoreless over the final 5:08 until Mitchell hit free throws with 17 seconds left and Dozier hit two more with 7 seconds left. That closed it out for a final score of 71-66.
Over those 5 minutes they:
- Tried a homerun type pass that turned into a turnover
- Mitchell missed a layup
- Welch traveled
- Coates big rebound but tried to score right away instead of killing the clock and was fouled
- Coates missed front end
- Mitchell missed front end
- South Carolina had to call timeouts on two inbound plays
Overall they missed 5 shots, had two turnovers and missed the front end of 1-1's twice.
If you could give an UGGY out for 5 minutes of a game, this had a shot.
Amazingly, South Carolina had only 6 turnovers for the game and Tennessee had only 5. Amazing stats for a pretty helter skelter game.
I have to give Tennessee a lot of credit. Their defense caused a lot of South Carolina's problems. Burdick and Graves were true warriors out there but it just wasn't enough. Everyone else was 11-32. They guards were 2-11 from beyond the arc.
Welch was fantastic for South Carolina scoring 19 points but more importantly, she grabbed 14 rebounds Several of her boards were huge and timely. Mitchell may have clinched her second consecutive SEC POY with her 16 points, 7 rebound and 4 assists performance.
On this day it was too much size and too much Welch and too much Mitchell for Tennessee to handle.
Ugly Game Of The Day
Talk about programs that have had the rug pulled right out from under them, Penn State took the express to the basement this season. A huge drop off as they are now 6-21. Here are the previous 4 seasons.
2013-14 24-8 Lost in the Sweet Sixteen to Stanford
2012-13 26-6 Lost in the second round
What these seasons had in common was a great player like Maggie Lucus.
2013-14 24-8 Lost in the Sweet Sixteen to Stanford
2012-13 26-6 Lost in the second round
2011-12 26-7 Lost in the Sweet Sixteen to UConn
2010-11 25-10 Lost in the second roundWhat these seasons had in common was a great player like Maggie Lucus.
The year prior to her arriving, they were 17-14. One player can make a difference.
Against Maryland Monday, they were just UGLY. They shot 30% from the floor, 0-5 on threes, 4-12 from the free throw line, 9 assists and 22 turnovers. An UGGY worthy season and an UGGY worthy game.
